Support more storage options

There are 2 type of markets:

Group#1: You have the none-techincal people, who just want to turn everything on, and start using it as a "for dummies" style. Everything is simplifed and beautifully presented to them without need to know all the technical stuff. They are welling to pay a reasonable fee for making their life easier.

Group#2: On the other hand, you have the computer geeks, like myself, would prefer my recordings goes to local NAS and then automatic synced to my OneDrive, this way I get a copy locally and a backup copy in my cloud. I know how to configure it, am familar with troubleshooting if have a problem. and frankyly I couldn't care less about the the nice interface after it has been configured. And i don't want to pay for more money when I already got tens of GB of cloud storage available at my dispose.

I see Arlo is satisfying only group#1, and making some money off the subscription. But I think group#2 would prefer an IP camera over Arlo partly due to the space limitation. If Netgear can support pushing recording to various cloud storages (local NAS, OneDrive, Amazon Cloud, Dropbox...etc), then you might get more share of group#2 market.

They have had over a year to do something, and all we got was a new GUI. Oh and they removed the trash, instead of giving us the actual option to delete our own trash.

As I said in my thread of necessary and reasonable suggestions, all of our cries have fallen on deaf ears.

Yes Please!  I only purchased a dozen arlo cameras with the expectation of local storage. Preferably an option to view videos for the local storage quicker and more surely than the cloud which sometimes goes down either from a connection interuption or netgears server issues.

Forgot to mention my preference for both cloud and local storage access. When I am at home, as security cameras, I need local storage and immediate access to videos irregardless of my internet connection or cloud server status. I also have the elite plan which is very convenient when away from home.

I really want to purchase the arlo camera but there is no way I can if the cameras cannot store to local storage. The most basic cameras can do this, so should this. Cloud storage is great for those who want to do that, but including a method to export images or videos elsewhere is a must. And since netgear actually make nas boxes, this is clearly something that would make sense.

I love having my video stored in the cloud, but I'd love a firmware update to allow for local storage AND full time recording. I don't understand how Arlo is clearly one of the more advanced and easiest security camera systems to use but how we would create a limitation on it that hurts the consumer.

Sure, this thread right now only has 22 kudos, but reading reviews online as well as in the forums, it seems to be a major consideration for prospective buyers.

This seems like exactly the kind of decision that the engineers would not have opted for, but one made by corporate for the purpose of residual financial gains per system rather than selling more units.

Please listen to your customers and update this soon!

Another request for local storage. Like others, I'm surprised its not included already. Would allow for continuous recording at the very least but in addition, allows for a mobile deployment where only cell data is available. When on mobile connection, disable cloud recording and push to local storage. Perhaps even add a manual 'sync to cloud' option to push data once once the system is on an unmetered connection. I see this as a Premiere+ feature that would entice many people to pay for the subscription.

OK, if local storage capability is provided then customers no longer need premium storage at $/month.  I purchased my indoor camera from another vendor that has a micro sd card in the camera and provides 7 day cloud storage for about 1/3 the price of a Q. Netgear marketing decision. I still vote for local storage capability.

These Arlo cams are exactly what I'm looking for (easy of installation, truly wireless) but I will only consider storing locally. Heck, I'd even purchase a ReadyNAS just for this purpose if they were to choose to only allow integration with that even though I have several other local options available.

Outside of any security implications, cloud storage doesn't help me as I do not have access to cable/dsl where I live so I rely on a WISP (max 4Gbps) for my main internet and one other solution that is used only for work (much faster but metered). We also have a few locations (vacation cottage, etc) we would consider purchasing cameras for where access to the Internet is simply not an option.

Additionally, and this should stand alone as a major reason, with the availability of the Netgear ReadyNAS, it simply doesn't make any sense that this wouldn't be an option.

There must be some sort of update Netgear can provide. I found the following in an AnandTech article back from Nov 16, 2015 (source: http://www.anandtech.com/show/9786/netgear-expands-smart-home-lineup-with-arlo-q-ip-camera):

"We have generally been wary of recommending smart home products that rely purely on the cloud for operation. While the Arlo lineup is currently heavily dependent on the cloud (just like the Nest Cam), Netgear did assure us that they had no qualms in enabling local recording of the video stream (either to storage attached to the Arlo hub or a ReadyNAS unit in the same local network) sometime in the future."

I would certainly hope they wouldn't make such a statement ("Netgear did assure us that they had no qualms in enabling local recording of the video stream (either to storage attached to the Arlo hub or a ReadyNAS unit in the same local network) sometime in the future.") without some basis of truth and a plan. This was 5 months ago.

Come on, Netgear...

I would love local storage! I dread the day that my internet or power is down and I cannot have record possibilities.

A lot of people want both cloud and local storage! I'd buy both if Netgear made available!
