Support more storage options

There are 2 type of markets:

Group#1: You have the none-techincal people, who just want to turn everything on, and start using it as a "for dummies" style. Everything is simplifed and beautifully presented to them without need to know all the technical stuff. They are welling to pay a reasonable fee for making their life easier.

Group#2: On the other hand, you have the computer geeks, like myself, would prefer my recordings goes to local NAS and then automatic synced to my OneDrive, this way I get a copy locally and a backup copy in my cloud. I know how to configure it, am familar with troubleshooting if have a problem. and frankyly I couldn't care less about the the nice interface after it has been configured. And i don't want to pay for more money when I already got tens of GB of cloud storage available at my dispose.

I see Arlo is satisfying only group#1, and making some money off the subscription. But I think group#2 would prefer an IP camera over Arlo partly due to the space limitation. If Netgear can support pushing recording to various cloud storages (local NAS, OneDrive, Amazon Cloud, Dropbox...etc), then you might get more share of group#2 market.

I completeley agree with this, these are great cameras I would give 5 stars and recommend if I had the option to store the image files locally.  Until then, I have not been recommending them, and would give the cams 3 stars, as there is no security redundancy with cloud only option.  This may hurt Netgears feelings, but I have been recommending Foscams, with local and cloud based Blue Iris if they want an affordable redundant system, or the more expensive systems with a networked DVR that connect to FLIR cloud.

It is only a matter of time before the underworld of criminals is aware of the Arlo cloud only flaw, and will easily bypass an otherwise solid platform.

Please share your info if someone develops the an api call.  I will pay good money for it.  And, yes, Netgear, the Arlos would be darn near perfect for my purpose if you decide to allow local storage, and I will pay good money for an upgrade to the router if you give me this capability.  Sorry I don't like all my eggs in one cloud basket.Smiley Wink

I agree with TheCodingArt's points 100%. The mounting idea is ridiculously insecure to begin with. I've had a dove (yes, the animal) try sit on an arlo cam and it slided down and almost fell off. Why they even put that magnetic stuff in is beyond me. Without it it would have sold just as much.

The big selling point is indeed the wirefree *option*, not that it always has to be wirefree.

Big surprises for me to find out about after having bought the VMS3330:

- It has no power-adapter input? Why not? Who would hurt from that? Don't tell me you can't make one dust and watertight because I have many gadgets that have them that are..

- The screw on mounts are not included? WTF? Why not? And then they do include 4 magnetic ball mounts that suck while I only have 3 cameras?

- What total fool and stupid idiot thought of the non AA batteries? Putting in 4 AA's would have been, what, a cm different in design, and more powerful battery-power, cheaper, longer lasting, and then they still go with the weird size? WHY???

- No Advanced Config for the base station? No way to set the WiFi channel to be used? And if they refuse to put that in, why not use OTHER free frequencies for the cam-base comms? Why use 2.4 GHz? At *least* use channel 14 then, but they didn't even do that!

- No recording length options after motion detection? Why not? To not fill up the cloud storage or netgear bandwidth/storage bills? Then WHY not offer other storage options and stop depending on internet connectivity???

Looks to me like some drunk drugged idiot did all the core design for arlo. It's utterly bonkers.

What do you all say; Should I return my 3 cam arlo setup or not? I still have 5 days to decide. Thus far I have not seen a stable Live view or useful motion detected video..

LovelyNot,

-There are many aftermarket mounting options for the Arlo Wire-free camera as the camera uses a standard thread. You can find the Arlo specific adjustable mount here: Where can I buy theft-resistant, threaded Arlo Wire-Free camera mounts?

-The Arlo Wire-Free cameras do not utilize a power adapter by design. The wired Arlo Q is a great alternative if you need a powered solution. With that being said, an optional wired accessory for the wire-free cameras is a good idea, thank you for sharing.

-The magnetic mounts are optional and do not have to be utilized with the Arlo Wire-Free cameras. For additional Arlo-specific mounting options see the provided link above.

-The Arlo Wire-Free cameras are designed for use with CR123 batteries. For more information on these batteries, see here: What kind of batteries does the NETGEAR Arlo Wire-Free camera use?

-At this time there is no way to manually configure the channel for the base station, I have already moved your post expressing the need for this feature to the Arlo Idea Exchange. We appreciate the feedback.

-Recording length can be set within the rule for motion detection anywhere from 10 up to 120 seconds.

Wow. Didn't I lash out a bit to soon.
I wrongly assumed that it could record locally. The controller has 2 usb ports. Ready nas by netgear i assumed would also be an option.

What happens when the cloud servers are shut down? These devices become paper weights i suppose. AC

I saw an ad featureing the Arlo and was ready to purchase the system for my home.  I had to cancel my order due to the requirement of using Netgear's Server for storage.

Had it allowed Local, or Both sites storage, it would have satisfied all of my desires, and I would hafe purchased and told everyone that asked me about the system (I do installations as a business)

I HIGHLY RECOMMEND Netgear give Arlo users different storage options!  You would definately ave more sales, and more happy users.

Thank you for the means to give you my opinion!

Fledgling
Sadly bobolinko, that is ALL this appears to be, a forum for people to express an opinion, I've been waiting for a couple of months now for Amy post from Netgear to suggest they are giving any attention to what people are writing. This thread is now 4 pages long, and gets regular posts from people, yet the developers at Netgear, or the marketing team, or the moderators, remain steadfastly silent. Which only suggests to me, this forum is a way of keeping vocal people "content" without actually addressing any of the issues they've raised.

NickDH,

While I do not have any information on the implementation of more storage options, I assure you the development team does value the community feedback provided in the Idea Exchange. I encourage you to continue posting and supporting Ideas here that you feel would benefit the Arlo system.

Thank you for your continued contribution,

JamesC

So you have no more intention of adding local storage options, than adding IFFTT support is what you are saying?

I really wish you guys would stop with the bull**bleep** bot responses, and fix your overpriced toys.
