Support more storage options

There are 2 type of markets:

Group#1: You have the none-techincal people, who just want to turn everything on, and start using it as a "for dummies" style. Everything is simplifed and beautifully presented to them without need to know all the technical stuff. They are welling to pay a reasonable fee for making their life easier.

Group#2: On the other hand, you have the computer geeks, like myself, would prefer my recordings goes to local NAS and then automatic synced to my OneDrive, this way I get a copy locally and a backup copy in my cloud. I know how to configure it, am familar with troubleshooting if have a problem. and frankyly I couldn't care less about the the nice interface after it has been configured. And i don't want to pay for more money when I already got tens of GB of cloud storage available at my dispose.

I see Arlo is satisfying only group#1, and making some money off the subscription. But I think group#2 would prefer an IP camera over Arlo partly due to the space limitation. If Netgear can support pushing recording to various cloud storages (local NAS, OneDrive, Amazon Cloud, Dropbox...etc), then you might get more share of group#2 market.

@jguerdatwould love to get ahold of that Python script. I'll PM you, but it would be great to open this up to the community.

It's a work in progress with recent modifications and cleanup. It can now be found on GitHub:

- Uploads directly to dropbox (no need to sync from your dropbox folder)
- Separate configuration file so no need to have your credentials in the script itself
- Keeps track of what has been uploaded so does not do it twice
- Appends the video duration to the filename so it is easy to find the “interesting” videos

BTW, I still have the original if anyone wants it.

Fledgling

Record to USB first at highest quality, sync back to arlo.netgear.com if/when internet is available.  Internet speed should not dictate video quality.  Internet outage should not disable all recording.

Guide

Just uploaded version 3.0

- Automatically concatenates videos if the gap between them is less than X (configurable) seconds

- More code factoring

- Skip cameras if not in the arlo.conf file

- Debug mode by default, as to not corrupt the saved state

- Initialize saved state without having to re-download everything

Next on the list

- Add running recording time on the video image itself

Wishlist

- Google Drive backend

What was implimented?

As far as I know, no internet = no Arlo.  If there is the ability to record offline now, how?

With an Arlo Pro base station, local backup can be enabled to allow the system to continue recording when it loses an internet connection. Take a look here for more information: How do I set up local storage backups on a USB device using my Arlo Pro base station?

local storage (USB port on base station) is implemented?  (for original arlo base station, not Arlo Pro?)

Insulting and inexcusable that this only works with the purchase of a new base station. Thanks for nothing, Apple ... er, Arlo (NETGEAR).
