Turning cameras on/off with one switch

One button on the app to turn on or off ALL cameras as well as being able to do each one individually

Netgear placed simple "On-Off" buttons on most features. Yet oddly there is no "on-off" button for the Motion Detection Test.  User is very easily confused because if user clicks on green arrow a new page shows Motion Detecion on - even though user did not turn it on.  Then user flounders around in settings trying to find how to turn off Motion Detection.  Once user leave the Motion Detection on page - user is mystified that he cannot see whether the feature is still on or off.

Netgear advises user to dress up in heavy winter clothing, use a snow shovel to obtain access to the driveway in the bitter wind and snow- and stand there for awhile in front of the Arol camera, that is 14 feet in the air, put on glasses, and try to see what symbols are active on a small cell phone screen.

Its that simple to tell if you left Motion Detection on or off.

I suggest an easier way is to insert a simple on-off button.  This would save the user lots of time and agony and would save Netgear support hours on the phone.  Good luck.

Brian_lehane,

This can be accomplished by using the default "Disarmed" mode. If you would like to turn a camera off individually, this can be done with the camera Settings using the On/Off toggle.

Hi JamesC

i think that you are are missunderstanding what I’m suggesting. As you rightly say, each camera can be turned off indivually, what I propose is the option of turning them all off in one go, with a single button.

The Disarmed mode does, indeed, keep all cameras from recording, providing what you seek after a fashion. I suspectyou're suggesting a widget or some other button that would accomplish this without needing to go to your modes. I'm sure this has been requested before - post in the Idea Exchange here and/or add kudos to existing threads.

I don't think there's any real difference between the camera being turned off and being disarmed. It still requires a small amount of power to communicate with the base to be able to be turned back on. Maybe that's wrong. Also, no apparent difference in battery drainage that I observed

Hi,

perhaps I'm not explaining myself very well! Most of my cameras are indoors. When disarmed, they can still stream video, which is quite intrusive when indoors, currently, I can only turn off individual cameras, which is a pain as I have 4 cameras.

What I want is to be able to turn them all off with one button so they cannot stream whilst I am indoors!

Why/when are they still streaming video when disarmed?

When looking and pressing ‘live’ on the app. My cameras are shared with my son who lives close by, and he can see us unless the cameras are turned off, hence wanting to be able to ruin them all off when at home.

The only current method is to turn each camera off individually. I'd question the need for your son to have access if you need to turn them off. Perhaps grant access at those specific times when he's needed to help?
