Support more storage options

There are 2 type of markets:

Group#1: You have the none-techincal people, who just want to turn everything on, and start using it as a "for dummies" style. Everything is simplifed and beautifully presented to them without need to know all the technical stuff. They are welling to pay a reasonable fee for making their life easier.

Group#2: On the other hand, you have the computer geeks, like myself, would prefer my recordings goes to local NAS and then automatic synced to my OneDrive, this way I get a copy locally and a backup copy in my cloud. I know how to configure it, am familar with troubleshooting if have a problem. and frankyly I couldn't care less about the the nice interface after it has been configured. And i don't want to pay for more money when I already got tens of GB of cloud storage available at my dispose.

I see Arlo is satisfying only group#1, and making some money off the subscription. But I think group#2 would prefer an IP camera over Arlo partly due to the space limitation. If Netgear can support pushing recording to various cloud storages (local NAS, OneDrive, Amazon Cloud, Dropbox...etc), then you might get more share of group#2 market.

So long Arlo, I'm done with you.  You had a lot of promise, but got tired of: your weak motion detection (i.e. delays recording and inability to choose zones); changing the batteries; and most importantly, because you did not have a SINGLE response to your customers on this topic except to say it was for "Future Consideration."

If anyone else is interested in moving on, check out the Sharx outdoor cameras (I purchased the SCNC3904-WIDE).  You can connect them to your own wi-fi network (no extra piece of equipment), they record in 1080p w/ audio, and have the ability to save to a local SD card, NAS, and/or cloud storage (DropBox or FTP).  The only issue with these is that there is a power requirement so you will have to plug them in or power them via PoE.

In my scenario, I paired the cameras with a Synology NAS using their add-on software NVR (Surveillance Station) for recording, motion detection, and notifications.  It's working great so far but I must warn you, the set up is not for beginners by any stretch.

Some will argue that the cameras are in a different class.  I would have to agree with that statement, but for a bit more money ($160/cam Arlo, $220/cam Sharx), it sure solves a lot of the headaches with Arlo.  That's the bottom line for me.

Farewell, Arlo.

I am sure that Netgear reads this here, but I wonder if the request for local storage goes beyond the 'Future consideration' status... @netgear: can we expect lcal storage to be implemented soon? If not soon, when approxiamately can we expect this?

This is really a 'deal breaker' and lots of people don't buy this system just because of the fact that local storage is not possible.

+1 Definitely would like the ability to save to a local NAS device alongside my basic subscription. I just got the system and I am evaluating if I should return it in my 30 days window period. Not having additional options to store the video is a big "Con".

I just got the system and I am considering on returning it within the 30 days window time. I am still undecided but I think NAS or hard drive storage is a must.

I made an account just to upvote this.

Please at least allow us to record to a Netgear NAS.

Some kind of local storage or the ability to save files to a Netgear NAS, Dropbox or Google Drive would make this system the nuts and a no-brainer for home security.

Would like to connect the Arlo to my Synology Surveilance Center. Please add this functionality.

All IP camera's used to have an option for FTP storage, what happened? why would you remove that capabiltity other than to wring data subscription costs from us? ugh.

I would buy this right now if it supports local storage! I don't want to manage another cloud storage!
