Support more storage options

There are 2 type of markets:

Group#1: You have the none-techincal people, who just want to turn everything on, and start using it as a "for dummies" style. Everything is simplifed and beautifully presented to them without need to know all the technical stuff. They are welling to pay a reasonable fee for making their life easier.

Group#2: On the other hand, you have the computer geeks, like myself, would prefer my recordings goes to local NAS and then automatic synced to my OneDrive, this way I get a copy locally and a backup copy in my cloud. I know how to configure it, am familar with troubleshooting if have a problem. and frankyly I couldn't care less about the the nice interface after it has been configured. And i don't want to pay for more money when I already got tens of GB of cloud storage available at my dispose.

I see Arlo is satisfying only group#1, and making some money off the subscription. But I think group#2 would prefer an IP camera over Arlo partly due to the space limitation. If Netgear can support pushing recording to various cloud storages (local NAS, OneDrive, Amazon Cloud, Dropbox...etc), then you might get more share of group#2 market.

Eagletec Rcr123a... About 30 to 50 days with highest video and 5 to 7 minutes of recording a day at 20 to 30 second clips. Duration varies based on Tigger event. Camera is on all the time.

Charger I use Nitecore I4.

Local storage is a must!

It would be nice to have local USB storage. Not all of us have great internet connections. We need to have a backup of the recordings and the ability to view if the internet is down via our Wi-Fi.

I agree that it's a flaw. But remember that this is not a PROFESSIONAL system where you would have that capability. This is an expensive "self-installed consumer product" and you get what you pay for. What you ask for exists but it costs much more than ARLO.

I have a "4-wireless + 1 wired (Q)" camera system with UPS backup. However, like the subject of this E-mail string says, it does not offer full protection in case of power failure, internet failure, etc.

My main beef is with the life of the CR123 batteries. This ARLO system replaced my now "almost" OBS VueZone (officially - to be discontinued in December 2017), but the VueZone cameras only required either one or two CR123 batteries AND they lasted for many months!

I paid a bit more but bought a 72-pack from "SureFire" as they are repitable USA supplier and the batteries are made in the USA. I know of so many horror stories of cheap imported imitations from E-bay and the likes, so I opted to pay more (~$1.86/battery) but get some that I can trust. Nevertheless, the battery drain with the ARLO cameras is far more than the VueZone cameras it is replacing. Pity 😞

U should have def read the product description before buying, I knew when I purchased that it was cloud based, we are all just saying that local storage would improve the way the cloud works by being a buffer before it's loaded to the cloud and also as a temporary storage if ur internet connection is down

This whole thread is focused on the lack of save issue and without a doubt is being ignored. Product reliability, owner security and customer satisfaction seems to be of no concern to netgear. The only factor is monthly income for Cloud services. Add loss of company reputation to the list. I doubt if anyone in here would purchase or recommend NetGear. I for 1 have been rather vocal to friends and clients about this and I know I have discouraged quite a few from purchasing these cameras. That I feel GREAT about.

I would GLADLY pay for a license to be able to store the video captures locally as well as keep 7 days worth on the cloud.  Maybe a USB drive hanging off my R7000?

Another suggestion I have that would make the system signifigantly better is to cache the last, say 3 seconds, of the video BEFORE the motion detection kicks off, then append it to the video.  Sometimes I see someone leaving the camera range before it can start recording.  I figured 3 seconds ahead would be fine.

I've also noticed that at times it records what appears to be flashes, but nothing actually happening.  Not sure if it's the camera losing wifi signal and reconnecting, or gamma rays attacking my house.  I'm hoping it's the wifi.

Is there someone that know if there is a plan for adding support of the two (2) USB ports on the basestation so that I can use this for local storing of the video? As understood it is not working now, you have to download somehow and use a scheduler.

Bad move.  Whoever thought this one up almost got it right, then totally screwed the pooch by having no local storage.  I bought a set of 4 cameras to watch various areas of my workplace, Never intending to hook them to the internet, but rather on a LAN Island NOT connected to the internet.  (Security concerns prohibit outside connection by law)  This means I CANNOT use the cloud system, arlo or any other cloud system.  It's just not an option.  Then I read about how so many Netgear accounts were hacked and camera access was free for the taking.  No thanks, never wanted internet camaera, (Can't install them by law) just wanted a fairly cheap efficient way to monitor certain problem areas at work.

Want a suggestion?  Not like you will listen anyways to just words, LOCAL STORAGE!  NO AUTO DELETION OF FILES.  Let the owner decide when files should be deleted. Local Storage... Local Storage... LOCAL STORAGE!

Enough of the rants, there is only one way a consumer can speak that will force the vendor to listen, Take this useless piece of junk back to where I bought it and get something that actually has *SOME* form of local storage.  Neatgear had their chance for my security dollar, but you blew it bad boys.  Better luck next time,

P.S. Whoever thought up this cloud only idea, If that guy worked for me, he wouldn't be working for me.
