IFTTT support

A lot of new "smart" products have IFTTT support, it makes them smarter. The Homeboy (where I assume Netgear ripped the idea for this product) has solid IFTTT support, so you guys should add it to beat them. Thanks.

Also, from this Tom's Guide article, it's unclear to me whether the IFTTT is a feature exclusive to the Arlo Q. I hope it works for the wire-free Arlo.

Actually, I take it back. Looks like they lied in their press releases, because they just responded to me on Facebook that there is still no timeline for IFTTT availability. I'll give them until January, and then my cameras are going back to Amazon.

I really want IFTTT support as well, but when I think about it, I can't really think of a ton of ways that I would use it. I would love to have a camera start recording when a certain door was opened or something, but that's really all I can think of. Does anyone have any other genius IFTTT ideas that they're hoping to implement if/when Arlo adds the feature?

Here are some of my ideas:

  • Send all roomies a text when the batteries die
  • Send all roomies a text when something records
  • Start recording if a door is opened
  • Start recording if a glassbreak sensor is triggered
  • Start recording if a smoke/water alarm is triggered
  • Start recording if more/better motion sensors are triggered
  • Turn lights on if the camera records something
  • Change the color of a light when the batteries die
  • Arm/disarm when I come or go (basically geofencing since Arlo doesn't have that capability on its own)
  • Arm/disarm when I arm/disarm my security system
  • Ideally save videos to Dropbox or Google Drive
  • Turn cameras on/off with Alexa

Those are some great ideas. I hope Arlo adds support for IFTTT soon!

OMG!  This is just dumb.  Netgear... you guys can't add in COMMON SENSE features like IFTTT and geofencing?  Seriously?  What are you thinking?????

This would be so awesome and useful. Totally a must.

Please support IFTTT or Zappier or enable some sort of callback URL based on a motion detection that could be configure. The callback could be: when a motion is detected call a url with either a JSON payload containing which camera, the time and date, a link to the recording. Or put that as parameter in the URL. ?c=cam123&d=20151212&t=345 etc...

Agreed with everyone.

The potential for the system would just skyrocket. And help Arlo stay ahead in the game because let's be honest, absolutely everyone is coming out with a new security system camera these days.
