Alerting Mechanism for Base Station / Camera Offline

Our installation will be very remote beach house. There is a need for mains failure detection in case intruder has deliberately switched of the power. This would be a nice sofware update feature.

I knew what you meant and you’re right. It’s more than a few lines of code, but less than development to bring out a Pro3, Ultra, Doorbell and security camera without simple features.

Hi robbiebrown34,

not even that. You don't need a ping when you use the Arlo cloud for recording purpose. Arlo is cotinously watching the stream produced by a camera to detect an event and strat the recording. And they already trigger a pushnotification if an event occures. So it is very simple to trigger a pushnote when the stream is broken. The only major effort will be an option within the settings to switch on/off the offline note. Thats all.

Hi eddyj,

as fare as I know, the motion detection will be done by the Arlo server within the cloud and not local by your equipment. That's why you need a online connection between the base station and the cloud to work propperly. So your local equipment dosen't need much intelligence. It is just a camera with a hub (=base station) to have connectivity with the cloud. It is so simple!

Since my Arlo Q Plus does not have an IR Sensor, motion detection is done entirely with frame comparison which is processed in the cloud...

It's simple: When the stream stops send an alert.

any official reply from support on that? Blink from Amazon has these features and cost minus...

If my base station turns off, will I get notified by the app that it has turned off?

No. The only way to tell is to open the app or use a web browser.

Or look at its physical lights.

Unfortunately, my 3 camera Arlo system may be 1 foot out the door and this is one of the reasons.  I just replaced my Arlo audio doorbell and the front Arlo camera with the Nest Hello (thanks to a great black Friday deal).  The 2 main reasons I even started thinking of replacing were the Arlo doorbell not being consistent/really delayed in notifications, and, yes, no notification when the system is offline.  Hence, no notifications at all by the doorbell or the cameras.

I could not confirm or feel comfortable that I am not getting doorbell or camera motion alerts because of system offline or even Arlo augmenting my primary home security solution.

FWIW, even my smart pet feeder has an offline notification.
