Feature Request: intermittent picture snapshots

I'd like to request that there be a way to tell the cameras to periodically take one quick picture, say every hour, just so the picture inside the app is always relatively up to date.  Right now, the picture can be hours or days old if there's not much activity, but it would give me more peace of mind if the image thumbnail was at least somewhat up-to-date.

I've considered doing this programatically with a script running on my computer, so even API assistance would be helpful.
