Hello, I've upgraded to the version of arlo and I regret it big time.

It's so complicated now...

Before I had geofencing and schedules setup so I had all cameras not armed when I was home and armed when i was away but then at night time say from 5pm to 7am the cameras would arm regardless of me being at home.. which seems simple right.... worked perfectly in the old app..

Now I've talked to technical support tried a few things and it's not working!!

I read the forums and seems a lot of people are having the same issue ? Is it a user issue or is it just not possible now ?

This new app is a big fail any help would be much appreciated.

This to me seems pretty simple.  When you are away (geofence), you want all the cameras on (similar to an alarm mode).  When you are home  (geofence) you probably only want your doorbell or maybe a select camera or two on so you are not getting blasted with motion alerts.

However when you are home and it is night time I want certain camera on in Home Mode (driveway cam, garage, back yard, etc), you probably want to turn more motion detection on.  If I am away and it is night time, I don't care as Arm Away if fine.

It is that night time schedule I could set before in the old app and I cannot set it now.

If you want tailored advice, please tell us what cameras you have and when you want them armed.

I was told by support I can't do this so if there is a way awesome.

Arm Away - Geofencing (everyone away) all cameras and doorbells set to Motion->Record & Notification

Standby - Geofencing (specific people arrive) Video Doorbell - Motion & Record

Arm Home - when geofencing NOT everyone away AND time is 10 pm to 7 am, want Pool camera, Driveway and Doorbell Motion->Record & Notification.

This issue is the 10 pm to 7 am schedule.

I think this is a similar setup to what people want on this thread if I am not mistaken.

It's best to start by identifying all the combinations of cameras you want to arm together, and ignore the modes.  Then the modes are derived from the combinations of cameras that you need armed at the same time, and the needed schedule automations and geofence automations are derived from the modes.

Combinations I am seeing are

  1. All Cameras and doorbells Armed
  2. Only the Doorbell Armed, all other  cameras disarmed
  3. Pool Camera, Driveway, and Doorbell armed.

I have these questions -

  • On combination 1  did you mean "doorbell"?  Or do you have more than one?   If you do more than one doorbell, did you mean "Doorbells" in combinations 2 and 3?
  • what do you want armed between 7 am and 10 pm when someone is home?  Just the doorbell(s)?  Or something else?

Arm away - everyone leaves

Standby - Specific people arrive

Arm home - from 10pm to 8 am unless everyone has left (want arm away)

If you don't want the two indoor cameras to be armed in "Arm Home", then you should delete them from the rules list.  If a camera isn't listed in a mode, then it is disarmed when that mode is active.

You need to specify what you want to happen between 8 am and 10 pm when someone stays home during the day.  Can you please answer that question?  I am assuming that you want the system in "Standby", but am not sure.

Is there a reason why you want to trigger "leave" when everyone arrives, but trigger "arrive" when specific people arrive?  Normally you'd trigger "arrive" when anyone arrives.

Anyway, I am guessing that you want this behavior:

  • Switch to "Arm Away" when everyone leaves
  • Switch to "Standby" when someone arrives and the system is in "Arm Away"
  • Switch to "Standby" at 8 am if the system is in "Arm Home"
  • Switch to "Arm Home" at 10 pm if the system is in "Standby"

Is this correct?  After you confirm, I can help getting the automations configured properly.

Note that when you return home after 10 pm, you will need to manually switch the system to "Arm Home".  Otherwise it will stay in "Standby" until 10 pm the following evening.  That is a flaw in Arlo's implementation.

Yes this is the setup I want.  Between 8 am and 10 pm if someone is HOME, then I want the system to be in standby.

Everything else is correct.  If you have a schedule setting that will work, let me know.

These will work for the schedule (although you'll need to use desired times instead of sunrise and sunset)

And use these for the two geofencing automations:

The last setting on you list or my arrive is not working with this setup.  Arriving from away does not put the system in stand by

Does it work when you test the automation?

Double-check that the enable list is set to be always enabled.

The only thing that seems to be working with your setup is Arm Away. Let me know if you need any more screenshots.

The schedule should work if you have the system set to either Arm Home or Standby.

Screen shots of all the automations would be helpful.

Not sure what you mean by saying "Arm Away" is the only thing working.  We need to get the four automations working, not the modes.
