Hello,

Are Pro 4 XL cameras discontinued?

What year were Pro 4 XL released?

Would Pro 4 XL cameras be considered an upgrade from Essential 2 XL 2nd generation?

Arlo hasn't said, but they are not currently listing them in the Arlo store. I am not seeing any new Pro 4 cameras on Amazon or Bestbuy either.

So I suspect they have been discontinued.  The Pro 5s is very similar, so it isn't surprising that they are no longer selling the Pro 3 or Pro 4.

FWIW, discontinuing sales does NOT mean that the cameras are not supported.

Hard to say.

Both are 2K cameras.  Some of the differences (no particular order) are

  1. the Pro 4 can be paired with a smarthub.
  2. the Pro 4 has a user-replaceable battery
  3. The Pro 4 can use either a magnetic or screw-thread mount
  4. The Pro 4 has a wider field of view (160 degrees vs 130 for the Gen 2).
  5. The Gen 2 has a USB-C port for charging, the Pro 4 uses a proprietary connector
  6. The Gen 2 cameras are much less expensive

Arlo says they will be adding smarthub support to the Gen 2 cameras (hopefully soon).
