I am using a Huawei MediaPad with Android version 4.2.2. I have enaabl;ed Push Notifications, tried changing the Mode from Armed to a Custom mode as suggested in another post but nothing. Really need this to work so advise please.

Push notifications only work via the app so you won't get sound on your Mac.
As for your Android device, you say you've checked your modes and rules to ensure that push notifications are enabled (if making changes, be sure to save). You might want to try toggling the settings by turning them off, saving, turn them on and save again. Also, check your device's app settings by usin the device settings menu, select Apps (or something similar), select Arlo and verify the notifications checkmark is there. It might be worth a reinstall of the app to see if that helps.

Bumbellina,
Have you lost just the push notification sound or do you not get push notifications at all? If you do not hear a sound when a push notification arrives, check sounds and notifications in your android Settings to make sure the notifications volume is not muted.

Turning on and off did not work but reinstalling did. Hope it stays OK this time. Is there a system it works best with as we really need the push notifications?

As with any app, there can be issues with older devices/OSes. You don't have to be on the bleeding edge but effectively obsolete equipment ay be problematic without jumping through hoops such as rooting and installing custom ROMs.
