I was wondering if there is or could be a feature where if the internet connection or power failed to the arlo base station, an email or app notification iss issued.
I use my arlo wireless mainly for security but it wouldn't be hard for someone to switch the house power off and the system is offline with no knowledge.

Secondly, in the case of an Internet connection only failure it would be great to store video locally to the usb.

Just some thoughts.

You could try buying a UPS and plugging your modem, router and Arlo base station into the UPS. I expect this would keep the Internet and Arlo alive for 1 hour++ if someone switched off your power. I am planning to do this myself soon. Has anyone else done this? If so, what UPS did you use and how long is it able to keep the Internet and Arlo active?

I have done this and many others have, too.  You don't need to go nuts - I have a ~$100 750VA  APC UPS that should run at least 18 hours based on what I measured my power consumption to be for a router, modem, base station and USB hard drive.

Thanks for the info. I had planned to get a UPS for this very purpose, so it's good to know how long a 750VA will last for. Thanks! 🙂

The query was more to see if a offline notification could be generated.  The local storage feature would kind of defeat the main features but if there were a limit on the time for local storage (maybe 1 day) it would be pretty handy and not take away from the online storage.

If your ISP dropped out the base station could capture the video and upload it when the service is restored.

Cheers for your feedback

The Q Plus camera is the only one with an SD card slot that could be used like this.  I don't know that it uploads video recorded during an Internet outage or if it just stays local (I suspect the latter).
