After years of operating various commercial and "homebrew" made game cameras for field research I realized when the cooler the ambient temp gets the better the cameras detect. Of course take in effect that if it triggers off of heat, then that explains it. Most of the cameras available today are temp & movement triggered.
The 7 arlo wireless units I utilize, operate under the 2 conditions of movement and temperature. I have better range detection with them when it's cooler and if the subject is really warm or big bodied as you'll see in the backyard video here. The unit you see flashing (black flash IRB) is the Reconyx SC950 still imagery security camera. The deer can't see the red glow of the arlo as it's 9' up and angled down. The deer wouldn't see the arlo anyway as I have 2500 Lumen LED flood lights on at night and they are very brilliant white in color not dull yellow. The deer actually had to walk by 2 of these LED flood lights prior to being illuminated by this single one flood light. Watch the whole video as well.
The deer's cones in their eyes were already blasted by 5000 lumens when you see them here. White spot vision.
With proper allignment of your cameras on the structure plus, adding a outer perimeter leaves nothing allowed to pass without being seen. Hope this helps somebody out on any questions regarding the question of: Where should I place the cameras to be effective?
