A request was posted in Ideas that they would rather receive TEXT messgs instead of emails  ( as it's easier to view at times ).

I just wanted to repost the answer as user tip;

If you want to get text messgs instead of emails, use the format to convert an email to sms ( text ).  I also use this on a dumb  non-smart phone when needed ( yes there still are some out there 🙂  ).

for exp; in verizon if you use    phone#@vtext.com  for your email, the messg will show up in your phone as an sms messg.

check with your phone service for the proper format to do this

formats as follow;

AT&T: cellnumber@txt.att.net

Cingular: cellnumber@cingularme.com

Metro PCS: cellnumber@MyMetroPcs.com

Nextel: cellnumber@messaging.nextel.com

Powertel: cellnumber@ptel.net

Sprint: cellnumber@messaging.sprintpcs.com
SunCom: cellnumber@tms.suncom.com

T-Mobile: cellnumber@tmomail.net

US Cellular: cellnumber@email.uscc.net

Verizon: cellnumber@vtext.com

Virgin Mobile: cellnumber@vmobl.com

Alltel:  cellnumber@message.alltel.com

AT&T:  cellnumber@txt.att.net

Cingular:  cellnumber@cingularme.com

Metro PCS:  cellnumber@MyMetroPcs.com

Nextel:  cellnumber@messaging.nextel.com

Powertel:  cellnumber@ptel.net

Sprint:  cellnumber@messaging.sprintpcs.com|
SunCom:  cellnumber@tms.suncom.com

T-Mobile:  cellnumber@tmomail.net

US Cellular:  cellnumber@email.uscc.net

Verizon:  cellnumber@vtext.com

Virgin Mobile:  cellnumber@vmobl.com

Thanks for the info and it works great. Just one comment as to the setup and that is to not use - or spaces between the numbers of your phone number. Once I straightened that out everything worked great. It's nice to get a text rather than the e-mail.

Wow Tom,

You really went the extra mile with all the formats for so many carriers.

Just so folks know, you can get the text alert(s) AND email alerts.

One other note - at least with Verison - the text alert will not have a link to your video like the emails will.

Nevertheless, for people like me who turn off their smartphone 'data' during working hours, texts will still come in and then I can make an informed decision on checking in on the web portal or otherwise.

Tks Don...

I would like to say it was hard, but can't... I just copied/pasted off a file I had ( got info from web a while back ).

I been using them for the wife's dumb phone so in effect , she had incoming email..... for me on my Android, SMS messgs are faster for me to look at quickly.

Can some one please help me?I been trying to add the text on my wife's phone instead of email and can't get it to work. I added her on my friends list , she created a account and when we went to settings , personal info and changed the email to phone number@vtext.com (verizon user) , I also went on my settings to add her number and still no text. Thanks

Assuming the camera is sending out motion emails to the primary account;

You can add multiple email addresses in the SETTINGS / RULES , pick the camera , EDIT (pencil) / SEND EMAIL ALERT 'to this list' hit  ">"

Add second or third email address to list. Make sure it shows green check and HIT SAVE as you back out.

add your wife's verizon phone number ( NO SPACES/DASHES, just ten digits ) in format  XXXXXXXXXX@vtext.com

make sure check mark is green and hit SAVE before exit.

Test motion again.. .  it will/should send to the wifes phone.

I tried this method (texting the email gateway) with att, the text is garbled with HTML tags and overflows the message.  But since the idea is just to get an alert, it is fine. A native sms integration with the phone may be better (and may not suffer latency of email gateways and clients).

Sorry, didn't know, as I use verizon, that strips out the html

you could try it as a pic messg using format;  10digitmobilenumber@mms.att.net

that may eliminate the html

Maybe you can check with ATT .. the only ones I see are below. and some html gets thru

To send a text, picture, or video message1 to an AT&T wireless device from your email:

  • Text message: Address your email to the recipient's 10-digit wireless phone number, followed by @txt.att.net, for example, 5551234567@txt.att.net.
  • Picture or video message: Address your email to the recipient's 10-digit wireless phone number, followed by @mms.att.net, for example, 5551234567@mms.att.net.
  • Don't include dashes or spaces in between the numbers.

Hi guys,

I also disliked the email and push notifications and wrote my own little app that takes in email alerts and sends out text alerts.  It's written in Python, runs on the web, uses Flask, Restful, Redis, Mailgun, and Twilio.

I wrote a blog post about it and have posted the code on GitHub

I was considering making a 3rd party service that does this for you -- let me know if anyone's interested.

Some help guys.  I been trying to add email notification but it's not working.

  1. Added 10digit phone number XXXXXXXXXX@mms.att.net,
  2. Hit Save
  3. Comes back in, only see the default register email on that list the above number is not in the list.

Something weird about it on the web based, using chrome browser.  Try it on iOS and works fine.

This service, https://textmeplz.com/, will send Arlo SMS/MMS alerts with an image of the alert to any phone in the US and Canada.
