Hello.
My client and I have a few newbie questions on Netgear Arlo system:
1. Does it come with its own router? If so, then can't we use the already existing wireless router (Netgear R6300) and buy the cameras only?
2. Does it work well with a big one floor house with weak wireless coverage in far away places?
3. Can we run our own storage and servers instead of using Netgear's servers?
4. Can we use Linux with it?
Thank you in advance. 🙂

to the best of my knowledge;
1) Yes, No
It comes with its own base station.... which functions as the sole router/processor for the cameras... you can't sync the cameras to a normal wifi router.
2)300 ft max line of sight ( YMMV )
It has normal wifi range ( operates in 2.4ghz freqs, 802.11n ) which depend on the normal obstructions found in any home. I've have range over 175 ft line of sight. If needed, you can add a second base station for extended range ( does require higher service level ).
3) No
The storage is at this time all cloud based. But, you can download and save locally any video/clip you choose
4) Maybe, not sure if Linux will support browser with needed attachments
currently Windows, IOS, Anrdoid systems with listed supported browsers
Requirements;
What you will need at a minimum to activate the Arlo Smart Home Security system is a computer or mobile device (iOS 7 or higher, Android or FireOS) with the latest Arlo mobile app installed, a High-speed Internet connection (minimum 1Mbps upstream recommended) and an available Ethernet port on your router.
If using a PC, you will also need a supported Internet web browser. The following browsers are qualified to work with the Arlo web application:
- Internet Explorer 10 or above
- Firefox 3.5 or above
- Safari 3 or above (Except on Windows and Linux)
- Chrome

Thanks. I don't like its cloud server and another router (already have a Netgear R6300 router for networking) requirements at all. 😞

Weird. I wonder why Iceweasel (Debian's Firefox) v36.0 and SeaMonkey v2.32.1 (uses the same Gecko engine as Firefox's) in my Debian stable machine.
