With Arlo's new web app (2024), it doesn't seem to be possible to pause a video "feed".  When viewing a video on my iPhone, if I pause the video and use the slider to go to a certain point in the video, the video remains paused at that point.  Great!  I can pause on any frame I want including the very first frame!

This used to also be the case for the web app.  But now when I view an Arlo video on a laptop, if I pause the video and use the slider, the video immediately goes into play mode.  This makes it impossible to pause in the first few frames of the video because users can't click the pause button fast enough.

How do I pause on the first frame of a video from a computer?

I am not able to reproduce this. What type of computer are you using? IS it browser specific or does it happen on all browsers?

The problem occurs in Mozilla Firefox, Microsoft Edge, and Google Chrome.  I'm running Windows 10 for the OS.  Using an Apple iPhone, I can pause the video, use the slider to move the video back to the very first frame, and the video remains paused on the first frame.  This is the way it should be, but on a PC, as soon as the slider button is touched, the video starts playing.

Arlo says it is an "end of life" issue - the camera is Arlo Gen 3 VMC 303, which Arlo no longer supports.  I don't see how it can be a camera "end of life" issue when, after Arlo updated their software, the pause works on an iPhone, but not on a PC!  Pretty clearly the problem is NOT the camera, but is instead Arlo's software.

Arlo is thinking "how can we get people to buy new cameras from us every few years?  I know!  Redo our software so a feed from old cameras doesn't work!"

@BrookeN  - I am seeing this behavior also.  I'm using Edge on a Win 11 PC.  This happens with all my cameras, it is not limited to EOL models.

To reproduce this

  1. select a video
  2. start playing it
  3. stop the playback in the middle of the recording
  4. move the slider a bit

The video starts playing again from the new slider position, instead of remaining paused until you press play.
