It has worked before but now the option is gone. I have restarted, re formatted the drive connected and still cannot see the direct storage option that was once there.

That explains it.  Only the VMB4540 and VMB5000 have the direct storage feature.

Are you looking in the app or my.arlo.com?  (It's not shown on my.arlo.com).

Android or iOS?  I am seeing Direct Access in the storage settings for my VMB5000s on my iPhone.

I am using ios and also on vmb5000.

when I set it up it was working great. Reason I just noticed is that my free 3 months membership just finished so now I wanted to see if local recording was working but won’t let me check footage. I can see its recording because card storage changes but won’t let me check

Generally I suggest testing direct access before the trial runs out.

  1. Is Direct Access enabled in the app settings for the base?
  2. What happens when you select the base station on the library page?

Hey Stephan,

Thanks for answering.

1 -I don’t see direct access in the app settings. Its not there. Under record locally the option is missing.

2- In the library page I cannot select anything or select the base. I have no options but filter and select recordings.

Is the storage status "Ready"?

Yes it does say ready.

Under it says best local storage which is on and overwrite locally also on. And there is nothing under it. Before thats where the direct storage toggle was

And that is where I am seeing it on my iPhone.

You might want to try uninstalling and reinstalling the app next.

I have, twice. And also have hard reset the hub. Nothing seems to bring the option back

What version of the app are you running?

I'm tagging the mods ( @JamesC and @ShayneS ) in case they want to follow up.

Can you confirm the base station model?  You said earlier that it was a VMB5000, but it uses a microSD card for storage.

The model info is on a label printed on the base.

The hub is VMB4500r2 actually. Uses a USB stick for storage

Only the two smarthubs have that feature.
