All in One Sensor (Model MS1001)

Hello all,

I want to place an 8 in 1 (All in One) Sensor on a door that is in a non-heated interior room. Temperatures in my climate can be as low as 10 degrees F in the winter, and as high as 100 degrees F in the summer. Can you please tell me what the operating temperature range is for the All in One sensor, and if the sensor would function properly in the temperature range.

This sensor will never see any rain, snow, or any other climate condition other than the wide temperature swing.

Wait for the mods ( @JamesC , @ShayneS , @BrookeN  ) to answer but the (very confusing) product page specs show this:

Operating Conditions

Indoor use only.
0° F to 113° F (0° C to 45° C)

The product pages seems to be referencing a camera which is not included in either package so it's unclear as to what the specs are actually for.

Thanks for your quick reply @jguerdat I just found the spec page and you are right it is confusing.

It is suppose to go down to 10 degrees F in the next few days so I set up a sensor and just set it in the non-heated room to see how it reacts.  I'll post an update by the end of this week.

So far my sensor is operating fine at 20 degrees F.  It is going down to 10 degrees F over the next few nights.  If it functions properly after that I am going to install it.

***UPDATE***

@BrookeN @jguerdat   With the temperature dropping overnight to 12 degrees F the All in One Sensor did fail in my unheated room.

For some reason the sensor sensed there was motion when there was NO motion.  The false motion alert immediately switched my keypad from the "Arm Home" mode to the "Arm Away" mode.  The exit delay beeping is what woke me.

I reset the keypad to the "Arm Home" mode and went back to bed.  Within minutes the sensor had another false motion trigger and switched the keypad into the "Arm Away" mode again.

I looked at the feed events on the mobile app and saw the false motion triggers.  I then disabled the "Motion" sensing for the sensor, but left the "Access" sensing enabled (because it is on a door).  I reset the keypad to the "Arm Home" mode and went back to bed.  The false alarm issue was resolved.

So in summary, at the cold temperature the All in One Sensors "Access" sensing is working well, but the motion sensing is failing, triggering for no reason and causing my keypad to change modes.

Just wanted to let everyone know my experience.

Interesting. Obviously, it could be a bug that needs to be addressed but there's at least an off-chance that something that had an IR signature moved. I suppose it could be a mouse or (somehow) even a spider (I've had spider movement near a camera trigger recordings).

If you're interested, it may be worth moving the sensor to a different location for testing although waking up in the middle of the night for "testing" wouldn't be my choice.

I never tested this, but my understanding is that PIR sensors can become more sensitive when they are cold.  That is because they are detecting changes in IR against the background level.  As the background gets colder, a smaller change can trigger the sensor.

Do you only need open/close detection? If so, you can disable motion detection.

If you do need it, have you tuned the sensitivity?  You can move around near the sensor, and find the lowest sensitivity that detects you reliably.  Then set the sensitivity a little higher than that value.

@jguerdat a  bug for sure.  If you assume IR was triggered then the event would act as an intrusion and set off the keypad siren.  It did send a Motion event notification to my phone app, but the event also changed my keypad from "Arm Home" mode into an "Arm Away" mode.  What woke me was the beeping of the "Arm Away" exit delay time I have set.  That is the software/firmware bug in my mind.

I disabled the motion detection because it is redundant given I have a camera in there also...and I don't want to be woken up again haha.

@StephenB   I really don't need the motion detection on that sensor as I have a camera on the room, so I disabled it.  Open/Close detection is the most important for that sensor, and that seems to be working fine.

But thanks for reminding me of the motion sensitivity setting.

Redundant post - Disregard.

No mice in this room and certainly no spiders at this temperature, although not entirely impossible I guess.  The sensor definitely did trigger on a motion event because it sent the event notification to my phone app feed.

The puzzling thing was instead of the event triggering an intrusion and sounding the keypad siren, it changed the keypad from "Arm Home" mode to "Arm Away" mode.  It did this twice.  The Arm Away exit delay beeping is what woke me.

I just went through my security hub settings and routines and didn't find anything that would cause the mode to switch. I would open a case with official support, using the app to go to Settings, Support to see what they may be able to discern.
