Video Doorbell Not completing setup after QR Code scan

Hello,

 

I am trying to complete the setup with this video doorbell and it is not completing when trying to connect with it.  I have tried all of the troubleshooting steps I have seen on this forum but none are working.

 

- The light is solid white normally, which leads me to believe the power is not an issue.  I can scan the QR code as shown in the app and it chimes, then after going to the next step it flashes red a few times then goes back to solid white.  The app then says "cannot connect to doorbell"

- Yes, it is 2.4 GHz.  I have also removed all spaces from the SSID.  Yes, I have checked to make sure the password matches many times.

- I have turned off the cellular assist in the options.  The router is about 8 feet away from the doorbell so coverage should not be an issue.  I have also tried scanning the WiFi QR code from the router app and that did not work.

- I have tried resetting the doorbell multiple times as well.

 

One question I have is about the WiFi compatibility with this doorbell.  My router is a RAX35 Nighthawk router, which is WiFi 6.  I have had multiple issues with laptops needing driver updates before being able to connect to the router.  I am wondering if this is the same issue of not being able to connect.

 

Please let me know of any other ideas people have, because I can't think of anything else.

There was a recent post about similar problems with a WiFi6 router - browse through this section to see if you can find it or search for something like "wifi6". I don't recall details but I think he had to turn something off in the router settings to allow things to work.

I'm experiencing the same exact situation! I've gotten the chime after the QR code, and my router app even says the doorbell has successfully connected to my network and shows the device connected. However the arlo app is stuck "searching". It's like somehow the app can't seem to find the device.

 

I've done all the troubleshooting the OP has. I have eero routers (not Wifi 6). It is a mesh system, so I actually unplugged two of the three units, turned off the 5ghz radio (a setting in the eero app) and made sure my phone was on airplane mode with wifi only. Both the phone and doorbell were connected to the 2.4ghz router per the eero app, and after scanning the QR code the eero app showed the arlo doorbell connected, however the arlo app just kept "searching". 

 

One final note, this is NOT a new unit. I had to take the doorbell down to have some siding fixed. Upon reinstalling it, it did not auto reconnect. At that point I started the the adding process - I made sure to reset the unit (i've reset the thing like 20 times now) and remove the device from my app prior to trying to add the doorbell again to my account. This arlo video doorbell was previously connected to these same routers, running the same firmware, and was part of my account only a few days ago. Yet now I can't get past the QR code when trying to add it back.

It's entirely possible it's a faulty device which a user forum nor beating your head against a brick wall (see Einstein's definition of insanity)  will solve. Use the Contact Support link at the bottom here.

circling back here to provide an update to anyone who is curious now or in the future. I could not get the doorbell to connect after the QR code chime, it just kept searching. I have an eero mesh system, and I decided to search the word "eero" in the community and found another thread where someone was successful using a guest network. I created a guest network, reset the doorbell and started from scratch connecting the doorbell under my existing arlo account but using the guest wifi network that was broadcasting. 

 

It worked. Connected in 1 second on first try. The doorbell is viewable within the arlo app. However, I can not change it back to the primary network. I've attempted to go through the steps of changing the network within the doorbell settings on the app. When reading the QR code to go back to the primary network, it just gets stuck searching like the original problem. At this point, I have no idea if it is arlo's fault or eero's fault. I'm at a loss. For now, I will leave it on the guest network with a very secure password, but would like to move it at some point. Will probably try again after eero puts out 1-2 firmware updates, and see if it miraculously works beacuse of some change on their end? Who knows... frustrating.

 

Also for anyone just wanting to give up - look into "eufy". I will most likely be heading that way, looks very nice.

So I tried setting up a guest account for my 2.4 GHz network as described here and that also did not work.  Getting the same errors as last time.
