Hi,
I recently purchased an Arlo Video Doorbell but I am not interested for a monthly subscription, I just need my videos recorded and stored not interested with motion detect etc. To clarify, Arlo Video Doorbell is compatible with any Arlo Smart hub or base station? Whats the difference between smart hub and base station? And this smart hub or base station can work as a local storage for videos taken by the video doorbell? I wanted to know before I purchase the smart hub Or base station and which Smart hub or base station model works? Please enlighten me. Thanks

IIRC, any base or hub starting with the VMB4000 will work. I'd tend to recommend at least the VMB4540 so you can view local recordings from the app (I believe the 4000 would require you to safely eject the drive to view the videos on a computer).

However, you state that you're not interested in motion detection which is how you get recordings. What am I not understanding?

Saske,

Yes. Arlo video doorbell requires a subscription to Arlo Smart for recordings to be saved to the Arlo cloud library.

You can set up local storage for any camera synced to the base station (including the video doorbell) to save recordings locally to a storage device. For more information on how to set this up, take a look here: How do I set up local storage backups on a USB device using my Arlo base station?
