had A system for 5 yrs or so, Ultra cameras. replaces cameras, batteries and base station, multiple times. Whole property mesh wi-fi with 200kb speeds everywhere. A is totally unreliable in 2024. frequently goes down, no notices, just stops working, or cameras simply do not record-cars, people, whatever. The software updates seem to worsen the issues, and noe the new app upgrade-LOL- is a total joke, nothing but "buy a plan buy a plan buy a plan"
what are you doing? I am looking for new vendors, anyone have name of reliable ones?
with the AI generated reviews on web sites I dont know who to trust but it damn sure isnt Arlo.
Thanks

from Australia here it has been challenging to find an alternative, given my criteia:
- NEVER China brand for a network or security product
- No need for subscription
If you know of something other than ARLO, please let me know too.

Potential alternatives: Philips Hue, though it's a new system, and UniFi, which is from Ubiquity.

Just checking Philips Hue just now ... cameras are all "coming soon"!

What's the general review of Ubiquity like?

Philips hue cameras are available here in the UK. Mixed reviews, though.
Unifi - check reviews on the internet. The issue will be that they need PoE.
In terms of the company, there were a couple of security incidents but who doesn't these days; Arlo had one too when it was discovered the password for their network could easily be hacked (I'd consider that incident a serious issue because who sets up easy passwords; it's not like there was a vulnerability that they weren't aware of). If UniFi had a wireless option, I'd go for it without questions.

Though not the best preferred option, I don't mind going for a wired one.
(Once, I was willing to pay a tradesman, as a small project, to set up a few WIRED security cameras. It's just for some other reasons that I decided to go for the current wireless ARLO)
