It’s been a year and activity zones never have worked. The manual doesn’t say a lot.
Is it because you need a constant AC supply for them to work? My solar powered camera‘s activity zones go down as well.

Today it says my Activity Zones are inactive and AC disconnected.
Check the manual:
The following features are available only while the camera is plugged in:
• Activity zones
• CVR
• Prebuffering
I don't get this bit:

Ultras don’t use AC, normally?
It uses AC if you plug in an AC adapter.
This is also in the manual:
Connecting your camera to the Arlo Solar Panel (sold separately) to charge the battery does not provide AC power. To use activity zones and CVR, you must plug the camera into an AC power outlet.

There must be a new manual. That is not in mine.
Manuals are here: https://www.arlo.com/en-us/support/docs.aspx
A direct link to the ultra user manual is: https://www.arlo.com/en-us/images/Documents/ArloUltra/Arlo_Ultra_User_Manual.pdf
There are two forms of activity zones (which share the same configuration) - and that does create some confusion.
- Local Activity Zones are processed in the camera, and they require AC power.
- Cloud Activity Zones are processed in the Arlo Cloud. They require a smart subscription, but they do work when the camera is battery powered.
Since you are just seeing this message now, my guess is that your trial subscription just ran out - and that you decided not to go with a paid subscription. If that's not the case, then go into your subscription settings and select "manage cameras". Then make sure the ultra is listed under your plan.

Arlo - Security Cameras and Systems
Page 70.
It has always been in the Ultra manual, whichever version you are using.
Arlo has used the same wording for Pro 2, Ultra and Pro 3 systems.

I have even tried restricting the zones to right quadrilaterals to no avail.

My Ultra manual only has 63 pages, so there you go.
Afraid not. I had both.
Same details.
Try page 56.

Thanks, the managing subscription was the issue. I lost power, which ended up draining my batteries on my three cameras (attempting to re sync), and I lost the sync to the hub. Once I recharged them, and re synced the hub, I was getting the AC Disconnect warning. For whatever reason, when I lost power and had to re sync the hub, it did not automatically add the cameras back to my premier subscription.
