Just got a notification that the subscription of the Arlo Secure Plan is being increased yet again.  What I find appaling is the fact that the company tries to justify the price increase with all these new features yet the increase for the monthly subscription option is a significant $8/month unless you want to pay for a full year in advance which is what many companies are doing to lock you in.  I remember just a couple of years ago I was paying $9.99/mo which will now be double for the same quality equipment I can get with many of their competitors.  So, what I will do instead is cancel my subscription and trash the cameras and switch to something better and more reasonable priced.  This is not to offer the end users more features but to price gouge and be greedy.

    Thank you all for the feedback. On January 3rd Arlo has updated subscription plans and pricing to enhance the Arlo Secure experience, doubling cloud video storage, and making new AI-powered capabilities available to all subscribers in the US. We have simplified into two plans to allow you to easily identify which features are right for your security needs.

I want Arlo to know that I am dropping them and going with another company that does NOT require a subscription. Congratulations arlo, you have lost ANOTHER customer because of your forced subscription model.  I will also be posting this to my MILLIONS of followers and subscribers in all my social platforms.

Yep, Arlo has become greedy as f, and released some useless features that never work correctly. I am in the process of transitioning to self-hosted security system, and will officially ditch Arlo into trash can on my way.

I'm canceling right now.  To keep seeing the same copy/paste BS response when we have legitimate concerns on this subscription increase.  I'm tired of the horrible recording rate, poorly written app, website that signs me out with errors constantly, and way too many missed events.  Not worth the amount I was paying already.  Definitely not worth the increased amount.  Such a sad turn of events.  I used to recommend to others often.

Update!   Arlo is cancelled and removed all Arlo Pro 4 cameras. 

I bought Eufy S300 3c Three Camera package that includes their 16gb storage Homebase 3.   

I like EufyCams way more and can record everything I want with the HB3.... for Free. 

Expandable storage optional to 16TB.  I installed an optional 500GB SSD which will last me forever.  No subscription cost required.

Same here, I bought the S300 4-cameras system and even added an extra one.
Strange isn't it, when you buy a system and it performs exactly as advertised, and as expected?
I've been an Arlo user for over 8 years, and in all that time I don't think I've enjoyed one single month of trouble-free operation. In fact, the whole system just seemed to get worse over time, especially their software that appears to be programmed by grade schoolers.
Yet these Eufy cams perform flawlessly, right out of the box.
Better video quality, better software, better battery life, better EVERYTHING.
I'm just wishing I had made this move years earlier.

I have been a subscriber and purchaser of well over $4,000 in Cameras at least 2k in subscription fees since 2016 on 2 properties.   I even turned on 2 family members to Arlo cameras and service.  Initially I noticed the price for 2025 would be $155.89 as long as I made annual payment like I used to in the past before it was changed to monthly.  I looked at my app and it looks like this service will actually add another $100 annually, so $233 starting in 2026.  Exactly 2yrs ago my whole system went down and I had to remove all cameras and devices just before going on vacation.  I spent exactly one whole day T-Shooting the system with tech support to no resolution. I ended up purchasing all new BS's and cameras.  I even deleted my whole account and setup on a new email address.  I finally got the new H/W working with 4 cameras (I had 7 working before).  When I returned from vacation I tried syncing the old hardware and surprise, surprise it all worked again.  I have worked in the Tech industry for 32yrs and I am absolutely certain the morons running the Arlo system locked me out for some reason with my old hardware.  I have a year before the 2026 subscription rate kicks in and I will be moving to a NAS based IP camera system with a much more intricate AI system and storage.  I pay for all my bandwidth monthly; all Arlo does is subcontract their system to Amazon.  This is no longer a tech company, it's just a service company with no tech skills.  Anyone reading this I would really consider looking at other options for security.

What kind of system are you looking at?  At my old job we had an Invid system that was pretty nice.

I looked at InVid Tech and all their cameras are made in China.  I avoid all camera, security products that use off-the-shelf Chinese designed products.  There are still some companies that control their IP and manufacturing even if some components are Mfg. in China.  Synology is one; I have used some of their other systems in the past. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Synology.  Their systems use Linux so it is much easier to use modification scripts.  I source all my computer components from Taiwan and S/W is all Open Source.

I was trying to tell others if the US government has security concerns about Huawei-made hardware, you should think twice before using a Chinese-made system.  

I didn't know Invid hardware is made in China...

I'm familiar with Synology NAS, so maybe I'll take a look at their camera systems.  Thanks for your advice!

There are a couple of downsides to Synology.

1. You will have to replace all cameras.
2. They don't charge extra licenses for their camera H/W but I haven't seen any wireless units.
3. I will have to run hard-wire in attic but I have been meaning to upgrade COAX with Fiber.

Upsides:

1. You have a much broader choice of camera H/W

2. There S/W and app integration is Light-years more advanced.

3. You can choose a 7Day cloud storage option for $9 a year per camera. 

4. With a NAS DS all videos can be permanently stored On-Site with owned H/W.

5. Much more discrete pricing plans.

6. If you don't want cloud storage I believe you can run it just from your NAS.

 

I don't work for Synology but the tools I've worked on since 2011 have built-in Synology NAS's to store all tool data, events and logs.

The likes of Synology and UniFi only offer wired cameras because one can easily jam WiFi signal with, for example, Flipper Zero. Between that and my Ultra missing events, I'm not convinced that what I currently have is the right equipment to monitor my home.

I’m the north east and I have a gazillion problems with batteries in cold weather. For me PoE is more than jamming prevention

Don't get me started on missed events!  Honestly, if someone is jamming my cameras I have bigger problems than I thought.

One other note,  Arlo's group policy removed my links to Synology pricing plans.  I have re posted here again but I am guessing it will be removed again.

Count me in too...or should I say count me out. I'll be cancelling my subscription as well.  A > 50% increase is outrageous and Arlo doesn't seem to care that people are cancelling their subscriptions.  Maybe they'll get the message.
