I’m only getting about 20 feet wifi range even in line of sight.  Any suggestion please?

Either the base has a weak WiFi section or there's interference from another 2.4GHz device near the base. You can try repositioning the base as well as using different paths when testing the camera connections (maybe you used one path and that path has an issue).

20 feet and then no bars? That's very weird. Is that the same for all cameras? Have you tried turning off your home wifi and seeing if the range increases? Obviously you can't turn off the router because the Arlo base needs internet but you can turn off the wifi manually. You only need to turn off the 2.4GHz band

Thanks I'll try that tonight.  One camera is mounted within that range and works fine.  Tried mounting in two other cameras about 30 and 50 feet away (but not in line of sight) and the base station couldn't detect them.  Then tried slowly walking away from the base station and both cameras lost signal at about 20 feet.

Repositioning worked a treat.  Thank you.
