This new updated App sure drains battery fast and make a significant warm/heat feel on iPhone 5s and 6 especially in live view.. It sometimes freezes when in full screen mode during live view. In full screen, landscape mode still have the top bar showing with the status icons. Pressing the live button doesn't always starts. When it does, only for a few seconds and stops.. Hmm.. am wondering what bug did the talented Arlo Software Engineers fix?

Arlo Specialist came straight back to advise that indeed they were pushing for a response and that my case would be kept open. It suggests that something is going on but it’s not really confidence inspiring.
Of course I will share any real feedback ASAP. Meantime we should keep rating the Arlo app, raising support cases etc.
Cheers!

As an aside, I always keep the case open by adding a comment to my open cases to prevent them from closing prematurely. Don't let them auto-close, just give a response, maybe asking for updates as well as providing additional info, if appropriate.

Chatted with a support rep that said they're aware of the issue as they've had numerous reports from customers and are investigating. In the meantime I'm using my iPad as it does not appear to have the same issue.

Purchased this week. System very simple to set up and does what need it to do. The problem is the app causing severe battery drain on my iphone. The phone battery goes from full charge to “0” in minutes. Others on forum has addressed the situation well and appears Netgear is slow to acknowledge and fix the bug. Like the system but the glitch is not worth the aggravation. Hate to appear paranoid, but can’t wondering is the app is gathering info in the background (LOL ...or maybe not). Fortunately can return for another brand if not fixed soon.

I just purchased the Arlo Pro 2 and I am also expreriencing significant battery drain. It seems from this thread that the company hasn't been able to solve the issue in a timely manner. I'll be returning this to Best Buy if they don't resolve it within my return window. Very disappointing.

The youtube app running on iPhones 2 weeks ago had the same issue, phone gets hot and drains the battery. They rectified it within 48 hours of being reported and updated the app.

Netgear just responded again to reassure me that the case has been escalated to the appropriate engineering department who continue to work on isolating the cause and delivering a solution. My continued patience requested..
Although I am dumbfounded at the time taken so far, the response appears sincere and I am a little more hopeful.
In the meantime, I continue to close the Arlo app after any event viewing or settings change. It isn’t right or proper but it’s become second nature and at least Arlo hasn’t killed my phone battery or burned my house down in the last two weeks.
Hopefully I will have something more positive to share soon!

Same here. There's a long list of different iphone models and different IOS releases, (I've had the problem with IOS 10 & 11), but Netgear is slow to fix.

I recently saw a thread on reddit where Apple users were complaining about how bad google’s YouTube app was because it started draining power fast, so it seems the problem is with Apple, not the apps.
You can check the apps that are using significant power in iOS under settings. Here’s mine: https://i.imgur.com/CNys7YB_d.jpg

I read on here Youtube fixed their app, so it can't just be all Apple's fault. I'm sure something changed in iOS 11 to cause it, but Arlo needs to update their app to reflect the new OS. By the way I watched several videos over an hour using the Youtube app on my iPhone 7 and only dropped a few percent on my battery, yet Alro's app drops at a rate of 1% each 30-60 seconds. Seriously, this is unaceptable. Are you listening Arlo?

I agree 100%. Netgear first suggested ios settings' tweaks, then blamed the ios releases, then asked users if they had reported the issue to Apple. I asked if they had reported an issue to Apple -- no response...

Thanks UK_Mark for your efforts and monitoring a resolution for fellow Arlo users. I spoke with my retailer who indicated others have also mentioned the hot batteries. It appears buyers are reading those retailer review from BestBuy, Costco, Amazon et al. If they don’t find a fix very soon Netgear may be the one getting burned (sorry, could not help myself) during the holiday sales season.

I have the same issue.
Just set up a 3-camera system yesterday and noticed significant drain and some warmth as described by others.
The kicker is I'm on iOS 10.3.3.
Hope this gets addressed ASAP!
I have never seen an iphone gets affected this way by any other app.

Same here. Bought the Costco package of 3 Arlo Pro cameras. The Iphone app is draining my battery, and my phone is getting very warm. Per I read this thread it's been ongoing for months and Arlo hasn't fixed it. I don't have much patience for bad customer service, so it might be I give it a week, otherwise I'll be saying bye bye to Arlo.

Hi sarigibson: According to what I’ve experienced and comments from other users the drain/heat issues is related to the Arlo app...not the iphone updates. The problem is being experienced with all the iOS upgrades. Unfortunately if we keep our Arlo systems we seem to be at Netgear’s mercy until they come up with a fix.

My wife has an iPhone X and I have an iPhone 7. Both phones are expereincing the battery drian issue. We are both running iOS 11.1.2. While running the app (not selecting Live) the battery drian is FAST. I can wathc it count down. When cameras are live...it is even faster. The battery drian appears to continue even if the home button is pushed and the app is in the background. For now my wife and I will close the app in the app switcher after EACH use. Seems very inconveinent considering apps are supposed to hibernate when in the background. We have background app refresh off as well. NetGear, please figure this out ASAP. It looks as though the complaint string is hovering on two months old now.

You're doing pretty much like we're all doing to minimize the battery drain. Another tip I do when ever I quit the app is to press: settings/profile/Log Out.
