What is the SmartHub for?

I am new to Arlo products and just set up the pro 4. I only set up one camera so far but it came with a smart hub. I’m not sure what the smart hub is four because I’m already seeing my camera pictures on my phone with the app.

The pro 4 either can connect to your wifi network or to the smarthub.  The smarthub does enable a couple of features that aren't possible over wifi.  The main ones are local storage and homekit integration.  I think battery life is a litte better with the smarthub.

On the other hand, if you have a home mesh network than you will get better range with your home wifi.
