My base station is no longer working (about 7 years old) and I am considering purchasing new cameras anyhow. Do the new ones also require that I purchase another base station?

Most of the new ones can connect directly to your home wifi. That includes all Essential models, Pro 3 floodlight, Pro 4, and Pro 5s.
The older Pro 3 and Ultras do need a base.
You will need an Arlo Secure subscription to get cloud recordings. Your old cameras were sold with 7-day free cloud recording. Current models don't have that feature.
