Hello
I finally was able to get the ultra smarthub connected with my arlo pro 4 cameras. It's been a nightmare. I think I have everything down but how do you view the recordings if you are not home on your network.
I have local recording setup. Do I need to also add something else so I can view when I am not at home?
Thanks

Yes you do.
You either need to
- set up port forwarding in both your router and the Arlo app
- install a home VPN (a feature in some high end routers)
Some information on this is here:
- https://kb.arlo.com/000062997
But this only covers the Arlo app bit - you need to go through your router manual (or explore the router web ui) for the rest.
These approaches won't work with some internet service providers - some don't support inbound connections. For instance it won't work with T-mobile Broadband.

No one said you can't view the recordings remotely - @StephenB provided the links to help you set it up. The easy way is to use port forwarding which the app will give you the needed info to be used in the router settings. Each router can be different as to how to set this up so consult the router's manual or the manufacturer's website or support.
The more secure method is to use the router's VPN capability, if one is provided, but requires a couple of steps to get it going when you're remote.

You are forwarding the port to the local LAN IP address of the smarthub - not the camera. It is best to reserve that IP address in the router, so it won't change when the network is restarted (for example after a power failure). Most routers have a way to do that, so check the router manual for that.
You get the external and internal ports from the Arlo app when you enable port forwarding for the smarthub. It normally is the same value for both. It will also tell you the current local LAN IP address of the smarthub.
I suggest forwarding both UDP and TCP.

@StephenB thank you this is very helpful. Last question i have the arlo smarthub port forwarded enabled and i took the ext & in # like you suggested and put that in my internet app post forward.
When i go back into the arlo app the port forward says enabled but when I click on that
says
Port forwarding is checked
status has not available
Do you think I have it correct? or something is wrong

Try turning off wifi on your phone, and see if you can access the local recordings.
