I can access USB videos while on the same network, but I cannot remotely. I do not have a subscription to Arlo Secure.
is this expected behavior or is something wrong?

Did you set up port forwarding or perhaps a home VPN?

No , I have not set port forwarding. It should also have nothing blocking the connection remotely.

If you have a NAT router, you will either need to set up port forwarding or use a router-hosted VPN connection to access the recordings when you are not on your home wifi.
Instructions are here:
OpenVPN works on my iPhone, but getting VPN connections to work with direct access on Android is problematic. So if you use Android, you probably should start with port forwarding.
