Does sunlight affect the durability of motion sensors on Arlo outdoor cameras (H9) ?

I have an outdoor Arlo camera H9, I think is an arlo pro 3. I have noticed the motion sensor has deteriorated over in 2months old (bought new). Battery still above 50%. I have read anecdotally that the IR / movement sensor is affected by sunlight. Can Arlo support provide advice about this ? and how to remedy .. thanks

"H9" is the hardware revision of your camera model - not the same as the camera model itself.  All cameras have "H" codes, so it isn't very useful when trying to determine the model.

Ways to tell the model...

  • Take the camera out of the housing, remove the battery, and look at the label inside. (If the camera cannot be removed from the housing, then you have an Essential model, not a Pro/Ultra).
  • Go to the support area in the app, select the camera and scroll down to the product ID field.

Sunlight includes IR, so both ambient temps and reflected sunlight will affect the performance.  But sunlight shouldn't degrade the sensor.

Have you tried running the motion detection test?

Note that the range for the PIR sensor is spec'd at about 25 feet.  That's presumably for people, vehicles often can be detected at greater distances (perhaps not reliably).  The sensor is more sensitive to motion across the camera field of view than it is to motion directly approaching the camera.  It's also more sensitive to motion at the bottom of the field of view than it is to motion at the top.
