Connected a 1TB Fat32 formatted USB drive to the hub. It says I've inserted an SD Card with <16GB.

Firmware is up to date.  Drive has been formatted as FAT32m on a Mac.

My guess is that there's a hidden first partition on the drive. Use a utility to remove ALL partitions first and then format the whole drive a FAT32.

I'd also suggest a thumb drive instead of a hard drive since it's much smaller and easier to place and remove as needed. A 32-64GB thumb drive is likely all you need for a a long time.
