Concerning the issue with the magnetic charging cable required for the Pro 3 Floodlight Camera...  Lots of discussion as to why the 9V is required versus the 5V that the floodlight comes with.  It would be a lot easier if Arlo would simply explain the reason for the 2 different voltages so everyone would understand instead of being tight-lipped about it.

As I have gone through what seems like 100s of post, I've finally realized the reason why... here it goes:

The 5V charging system that comes with the camera is capable of charging the camera battery ONLY.  The lower voltage is not capable of providing enough power to run the camera, the floodlight, sound sensors, etc. all at the same time. That requires the higher voltage, (9V).  This is the reason why you're locked out of the other functions when not connected to the 9V power source.  5V = camera only.

The 9V charging system will provide enough power to charge, (keep the charge) on the camera batteries AND allow for all of the other camera functions to work.  Pretty simple, huh?

The problem I have is Arlo is being somewhat under-handed by not telling their customers up front what the outdoor voltage requirement is and WHY!  If the camera requires 9V to operate correctly with all functions, then why don't they include what you need with the camera?  It costs an additional $25 to get the additional cable and charger off of Amazon... why not include it with the camera and just charge the additional $25 for the camera instead of frustrating your customers?

There's also the issue of cord length, wire gauge and voltage drop over the distance from the power supply to the camera, especially under load.

Yes.  But it is annoying that you can't use the magnetic connector to charge the camera with a standard USB charger.  Taking the camera out of the housing and connecting with microUSB is a nuisance.

Does anyone know how to test the cable for continuity? The magnetic end has 3 tiny prongs and a pad. Which is neg which is pos? Anyone?
