The back up USB drive port is on the rear of the base ( there are two ).  The max size it supports is 2 TB in fat32 format.

( only one port is active at a time )

As to if the Seagate drive  model will function, not 100% sure... some hard drives in the past haven't worked ( don't remember which models ) One thing is many require extenal power as the port may not be enough.

I do recommend a speed stick instead tho.... the are small and cheap enough, a 32 or 64gb will be plenty, and they are easier to remove if needed ( files are aprox 3MB per 30 secs )

My new USB 3 2TB Seagate will not format.

Tried an external format?

As @TomMac says, most people use a USB stick, even though the manual talks of USB "devices".

USB3 requires the USB port to deliver enough power for the hard drive. The VMB4500 does not claim to have USB3 ports.

2 TB also seems to be the storage limit.
