I have just purchased a 3-pack Arlo Pro 2 camera system and use ASUS RT-AC88U router for the internet.  However, one of cameras only has one red WIFI bar and does not record the video when detecting the movement. I have exchanged the location of the cameras as well, but they are doing the same thing. Could I increase the signal of camera by improving current Wi-Fi range? Please provide the solutions.

That Information I do not have. Every environment/household is different. Depending on the distance from the base & the amount of devices broadcasting a wireless signal like Routers, modems, tv box, alexa, google home, smart tv can possibly affect the base station. 

 

I personally have my base station within 4' or so without any issues. Moving the base would help troubleshoot a possible interference issue with the base & router.

There aren't a lot of options.

 

  • if the base is very close to the router try to move it somewhat further away (to eliminate wifi interference)
  • move the current base, trying to equalize the distance to all the cameras.
  • get another base and place it closer to the camera with poor signal.

Thank you for the info. I have more questions:

1) What's the minimum distance between the base and rooter?

2) The WIFI signal at camera is determined by the base or the rooter?

3) A better router can boost the WIFI signal at the camera?

-A. The base is connected to the router for internet, therefore the bases distance from the camera(s) will determine the cameras range

 

2) The WIFI signal at camera is determined by the base or the router?

 

-A The range is determined by the base station.

 

3) A better router can boost the WIFI signal at the camera?  

 

-A No. The cameras connect to the base station & the base station determines the maximum distance of 300' from camera(s) (Electrical interference & objects, walls can affect the range.

This was already answered, but let's try again.

 

You have to wire the hub/base station to your router. So the minimum distance between base and router is the length of the shortest LAN cable you can find. The shortest LAN cables I have seen were something like 25 centimetres, or one foot in old money.

The base station and router & most wireless devices can cause interference with one another. (especially when kept too close to one another). It is best to keep your wireless electronics away from each other to help with any potential wireless interference issues.

 

Your range issue may be due to wireless interference, or your camera is too far from the base station. Your environment can affect the range.

That's the key to these things. What works for some people doesn't for others. So a bit of experiment can help.

 

In my case, hub and router sit next to each other without problems. Other people need separation. But how far is down to local conditions.
