Had 2 Arlo Essential Spotlight Camera for about 2 years and I am trying to add the device using the Android Arlo app because the app was stuck in connecting mode so deleted app and camera from app, reinstalled allowed camera and microphone permissions on Samsung Note 9 phone

Everything goes fine until I get to the step where I'm supposed to scan the QR Code. For some reason the app is not opening my camera in order to scan the code. I've tried it on my phone and another phone and the same problem occurs each time.

Tried factory reset of camera and that does not work either, all I get is a blinking blue light then 14 flashing amber lights

Anyone have any idea what to do, almost time to throw $300 in the bin

Buying Reolink from now on cause I have not had any issues with these

The Arlo camera scans the code on the phone screen, not the other way around.  It is sometimes tricky to get the camera properly focused on the code - if that's your situation you can try using a PC (my.arlo.com) to onboard the device.

But now it won't find in app, how do I reset i keep trying but all I get is amber flashing lights for about 14 times, want to factory reset but no real easy instructions on how to thanks

Are you getting the chime when it scans the QR code?  If you are, it'd be useful to know if the camera is showing up in the attached device list of your router.

You do need to make sure you are selecting the correct Essential (choosing the spotlight if you have the model w/o the spotlight will fail, and vice versa).

You could try onboarding with a PC (my.arlo.com) that often will work when the app fails.

A couple of other things:

  • encryption needs to be WPA2 (AES) on the wifi
  • punctuation (including spaces) in the network name and password can get in the way.
