Actually it does work. To be clear, you need to have the VPN in place when you create the account. You disconnect it when installing the cameras. You also need a payment method for the country where the VPN was terminated.

I hope they see the level of complexity the user has to go through to use a product that should be simple to use.

I will try, thanks.
What do you mean by a payment method in the country were the VPN was created? I am from Uruguay south america. Is there any specific country that will work better? Do I have to Choose USA?
Thanks

If you terminate the VPN in the US, then you will need a payment method with a US billing address.

Here's the list of countries that can get subscriptions (and, thus, have credit cards for payments):
https://kb.arlo.com/000062249/Where-is-Arlo-Secure-available
Note that these countries may also not currently be able to onboard new cameras due to Arlo's slow roll-out of regions that can do so.

Hi all,
I was able to install the cameras here in Chile using a VPN. Right now I am enjoying the 30 day trial of Arlo Secure but as soon as that expires I will not be able to renew it as I Don't have a US billing address.

An option might be a compatible base station. You connect the camera to it via your WiFi router and I think it can save recordings. I have an old one that I used on older Arlo cameras and that’s where my recordings were saved. I was told that it is compatible for the 2nd gen essential camera so I will give it a try before my trial ends.

Yes, that would be ok, but I don’t have the set up option in the app.

Direct access to local storage (via the app) requires a VMB4540 or VMB5000 smarthub.
Older bases (VMB4000, VMB4500) support local recording, but do NOT support playback. The ONLY way to see local recordings with these bases is to eject the storage using the app, and then connect it to a PC.

I have a compatible base station, but the problem isn't compatibility base station - camera, the problem is when you have an account outside US on Latin America countries.

If you don't get a subscription, then you can just create the account using a VPN that terminates in the US. The US payment method isn't needed unless you have a subscription.

Arlo limits the countries where it can be installed. The workaround is to create an account when connected to a VPN that terminates in the US.
If you need a subscription then you will also need a US payment method.
