Do I need to charge the battery if my door cam is hardwired where the doorbell was?

The camera doesn't charge with the typical doorbell wiring/voltage. You need to charge the battery as per the directions.

Not sure what @jguerdat is thinking.
If you mean the 2nd gen doorbell, then it is supposed to trickle charge from the low-voltage AC delivered to the doorbell:
If you are talking about a gen 2 camera (not the doorbell), then it is charged using the USB-C connection on the camera.

This thread is supposedly for the Essential Outdoor 2nd Gen camera so I responded as such.
