Hi there,

I have a new Arlo essential camera and have set the night vision to colour night vision but unfortunately when it's in live view at night it's in black and white unless I manually turn on my spotlight, does anybody know why this is happening and whether I can change the settings or ifbits a fault,

Any suggestions would be much appreciated

Have you checked the Light Settings in the camera settings?

Yes I have I spoke to Arlo and they said that the camera should be in black and white unless there is motion and then the spotlight comes on does anyone else have this same protocol?

When you livestream the camera at night, you need to turn on the spotlight manually.

When it detects motion, it will turn on the spotlight.  Though the very beginning of the captured video might be black and white (actually infrared).

I'd like to know the answer to this too. I have 3 cameras and only 1 of them actually records in color at night...even though the spotlight comes on. It's very frustrating

Is it possible that the spotlight just can't provide enough light to illuminate the field of view?

Can you somehow temporarily add light to the area (turning on porch lights, etc)?

Back to the original question (which may also be the second question, too), re-reading shows that it's all about live view. I do believe that by default the camera uses the IR LEDs and you have to manually turn on the spotlight, just as support said. There's no setting for this - what settings are available there are for motion detection.
