The Arlo system would be just perfect if it also had:
1 - Image recognition technology. And not only facial recognition, but also animal presence detection and object recognition (such as cars packages/mail deliveries etc). That would awesome for smart home integration. It would enable a whole lot of new possibilities. Examples: 1. turn on/off light bulbs or smart power outlets if animal is present or not present; 2. play audio message if a specific individual is detected; 3. send notification when a specific family member arrives; 4. open smart lock if a specific individual is detected; 5. open garage or turn on lights if car arrives; 6. send notification if package is delivered etc etc etc. The possibilities are endless!
2 - Apple Homekit integration. (I love IFTTT but sometimes it's laggy and unreliable.)
3- All the features Arlo already have (plugged power with battery backup option, local storage, cloud storage, nightvision, 2-way audio etc.)

I'm shopping for a home security system right now. If you were able to tell me that Arlo will get Apple Homekit support in the future (I wouln't mind waiting to get it) I would purchase a set of Arlo cameras immediately. I was tempted to choose Netatmo Welcome and Presence, as they already offer face recognition and animal detection and their support told me they're going to add Homekit support soon as an update to the current hardware. But they lack 2-way audio and, most importantly, battery power backup.

Arlo Smart will be available later this year. There is not an official release date at this time. We will have more information on this feature available closer to it's official release.
I do not currently have any information on Apple Homekit integration. Keep posted at http://arlo.com/en-us/ for new announcements on partner integrations.
