So if the motion detects is based on infrared emitted by bodies at 98.6 degrees F, how can it work when the outdoor temperature is higher than that? Are the cameras usable in a place like Phoenix?

This is great. Now my question is *how* can this work?? I guess there's something about IR and heat that I completely fail to understand.

I think you'd need to investigate how the sensors actually work.  The physics would be obviously important.

simple answer... IR is not necessarily heat.... two different things
