Arlo App should not send notifications when the owner is in the room.

Hello - does anyone know how to disable alerts if the owner is already in the room?

I manage a business and would like to keep motion detection and alerts on at all times, however, I do not need to be alerted if I'm the one on camera.

Much of the time during the day, I might be the only person on camera moving from one room to another, and it's annoying to continually get alerts.  Also, I do not want to manually change notification settings throughout the day.

It would be great if the Arlo could detect me (maybe through my phone being connected to the same network/wifi) and only disable alerts during this time.

I guess this is one that goes well in the "Ideas" section of this forum. That said; when do you want it to be on? If you are there, do you need your Arlo to be armed in the first place? If not, you can use the Geofencing perhaps. That's what I do. When I'm at home, the Arlo system is off.

Another option would be the Arlo Q with DVR option. Then you can just have it continuously record and look back anytime in case something happened.

Thanks for the reply and letting me know about geofencing.  Also, I'd move this to "Ideas", but not sure how.

Geofencing looks like the answer, however, I do not leave my GPS on to save battery life on my phone.

Maybe since each Arlo knows what network it is on, if the owner connects to any network connected to an Arlo camera, then the system can then know not to send alerts at this time.

Again, just a suggestion, and I'm sure it's easier said than done.  Thanks Netgear for a excellent overall product!

Sure, that would be a nice addon to the app.

Geofencing also works when GPS is off, your phone uses WiFi accesspoints and celltowers to find its location. I haven't tried, I'm not bothered with the marginal power consumption and always have the GPS enabled. It's only used when an app requests precise location.

Interesting.  I only use GPS when I use Google Maps to navigate.  Now that I think about it, I don't know whether it's the GPS or the Maps app which drains the battery, but I guess it's the app itself.

To clarify to any Netgear designers/engineers reading this, the new feature should allow mobile alerts to be disabled when the owner is present, however, leave the cameras armed and recording.  I think this makes the most sense, since it's obvious to the owner that motion is occurring when they are present making the mobile alerts unnecessary and annoying, however, recording may still be desired if there are others (customers/employees) also in the vicinity.

On the flip side, mobile alerts are definitely helpful when the owner is not present, or leaves the area even for a short period of time.

There are some topics on network recognition for mode changes in the idea exchange, I encourage you to visit these discussions and offer your support via Kudos.

For your scenario, you could consider creating a custom mode with active motion detection but no alerts enabled. That way you can set a schedule for when you are home to use the custom mode or manually enable the custom mode so that you do not receive alerts but motion is still detected.

This could also be utilized with Geofencing by setting the "Home Mode" to your custom mode so when Geofencing senses you are home, the custom mode with no notification alerts becomes the active mode.
