netgear doing ransomware on my arlo base station refuse to upgrade firmware

So my arlo cams stopped sending email notifications to my email address.  I tried everything, restart, delete the cams, install the cams, and then i put in new email addresses.  Now all my notifications are going to the new emails, but not the old address.  i called tech support and the guy wanted to remote into my computer.  I didn't feel good about this, and then he tells me that my email address for the base station had EXPIRED, and that he would only upgrade my firmware if i paid them!!!!  RANSOMWARE FROM A REPUTABLE COMPANY SHOULD NOT BE TOLERATED!!!

It doesn't sound like you contacted Arlo support, were you using one of the available support options located here: http://www.arlo.com/en-us/support/contact.aspx

Apparently the 877 number that came up when googling arlo support, IS NOT a real Arlo Support number.
