Would Your Camera Names Actually Help You in the Moment?

Tiny setup tweak, big “oh thank goodness I know where that alert came from” energy.

If you have multiple Arlo cameras, the names you choose matter more than you might think. When an alert pops up, you do not want to play a high-stakes guessing game called Which Camera Is Camera 2?

Helpful names are specific enough that your half-asleep brain can understand them immediately:

• “Front Door”

• “Driveway Left”

• “Back Gate”

• “Garage Interior”

• “Side Yard”

• “Living Room”

Less helpful names include the classics:

• “Arlo Camera 1”
• “Camera 2”
• “New Device”
• “Back Camera” when you have three cameras in the back and one of them is definitely judging you.

It sounds simple, but clear names can make a real difference when you get an alert at night, while you are at work, or when you are away from home and trying to figure out if “motion detected” means delivery driver, raccoon, or the backyard chair beginning its villain arc.

This also helps everyone else in your household. If more than one person has access to the system, they should be able to understand which camera triggered without needing a family meeting, a floor plan, or psychic abilities.

Take a minute today and look at your device names. Are they still accurate? Did you move a camera and never rename it? Do your names make sense to everyone who uses the app?
