If I am home for an extended amout of time and disarm the system, and shutting the camera's off from within the App to save battery comsumption, would that do any harm, by way of the base station "forgetting" that there are camera's synced? Would I have to re-sync? or just turn them on and then arm the system and be ok.

When you disarm the cameras they go into a sleep mode using almost no power at all ....
the only time u really have to turn off the cameras in settings is if you share the cameras with other and want privacy
so disarm , don't worry about battery usage and arm when needed to do so ( don't turn off the base btw as that will make the cameras use much more power than in sleep mode )

You should search the forums, there are ways to automatically make your cameras go into "sleep" mode when you're home.

When you change batteries...
Just open door, swap them, close door.... In most cases ( where the camera was functioning well ) it will auto re-sync.
No need to power anything down
