Hi, I've tried to search for this without luck.

Not a huge problem, since I have gotten 8 months from my last set of batteries...but, this morning, going to view the camera, the battery gauge dropped from 48% to 2% and is not accessible until I replace the batteries.

Same thing happened with the last set of batteries.

I know the Li battery curve has a sharp dropoff, but just want to ask, is this typical and to be expected?  I have the latest firmware.  Thanks.

Not typical at all. It might be worth removing and resyncing the camera to see if that helps.

Thanks.  I figured since it happened twice it might have been.  I did that with the first set, with no difference in the battery level.  In any event, in my usage mode I got 8 months, so I will probably just live with it.

Power cycle the base to see if that helps. Check your firmware versions. It might be worth resetting and starting fresh by removing all devices from Settings, My Devices. You shouldn't need to live with it.
