I have done a search but unable to find my answer (maybe I'm just dumb).

How do I go about setting up a mode OR rule to where one camera's motion detection makes ALL cameras record?

I have only a two camera setup at the moment so I would think this would be easier than expected....

When I Googled this I found that someone hade done this:

They Created a New Mode. Let's say you name it "All Cameras Record."

Then they created rules for that mode.

  1. If camera A detects motion, record video on camera A.
  2. If camera A detects motion, record video on camera B.
  3. If camera B detects motion, record video on camera A.
  4. If camera B detects motion, record video on camera B.

Just curious, Do you want to try this?

Note: It did not work completely the first time, but when they rebooted the base station it worked well.

In the App at the bottom of the page, select the "Mode" icon. Select the green pencil to the left of the camera you wish to use as the trigger. You willl see a section labelled as "If the following." There should e a small icon  or picture of a camera under that and the name of the camera will be green. Click on the green camera name. All your cameras will be listed there with small red circles to the right of each camera's names. Click on each circle that you wish to record whenever the triggering camera detects motion. Repeat these steps for each camera that you wish to use as a trigger. Don't forget to click the circle of the camera that is doing the triggering if you also want it to record.

This is not working for me...?

I go to the app.

Bottom of the page I select the mode icon.

There is no green pencil to the left of the camera.

So I select the only listed item under "my devices"

The next screen reveals 4 different modes.

your instructions state

"Select the green pencil to the left of the camera you wish to use as the trigger"

There is no camera or pencil so I am assuming to select the "armed" pencil.

There it reveals the "rules" for this mode.

"All your cameras will be listed there with small red circles to the right of each camera's names. Click on each circle that you wish to record whenever the triggering camera detects motion."

This is not so for me...?

In my app, the only mode that doesn't have a pencil is the :Disarmed" mode. All the other modes, (Armed, Schedule and Geofencing), have green pencils to the right of the mode.

Select the Armed Mode. Do you have any Rules set up for each camera? If so, click the pencil to the right of the Rule and it will take you to the page I was referring to. If not, let me do a little research on creating rules as my system is integrated with Smartthings and my settings may be different. Will get back shortly

Ok, I was able to change the rules in the IDE on my computer, so lets go back to the App. Select The Mode icon at the bottom of the page. Next to the Armed mode there should be a green pencil. Click on it. I believe that you should have a section called, "Rules.:

There should be a rule for each camera with a pencil next to it. The Rule should say something like, "Record video on Camera A if Camera A detects motion. Click on the pencil and it will take you to the page I was referring to earlier. Select each camera you want to record if Camera A detects motion.

Try rhat and let me know if that helps

Ok so maybe my peabrain isn't wrapping around this concept or something..... lol

It seems like I need more that the two rule limitation....

I do the following

open app--> select mode--> select my device (there it shows me 4 different modes Armed, disarmed, Schedule, geofencing) I then tap on the green pencil  for the "armed" mode.

There are two rules...

one rule for camera 1 (front door)

one rule for camera 2 (drive way)

I select on camera 2 (drive way) as I want it to record when it detects motion.

I also want it to tell camera 1 (front door) to record when it (Camera 2/driveway) detects motion as well.

so if in the rule it says "if the following" driveway "motion is detected" "then do the following"

front door "record video"......

The driveway will not be recording as it is now telling front door to record.

I am wanting the following to happen.

If motion is dected on camera 2 (drivway) all cameras start recording.

If motion is dected on camera 1 (frontdoor) all cameras start recording.

As it is now the motion has to be detected on each different camera to initiate recording...

We are making progress as you have found the page I was referring to. Click on the pencil to the side of the Armed mode. In the Rules section click on the pencil for the first camera, (I will call it Camera A). On the next page under If the Following section click on the down arrow by Camera A's green name. Select the circles to the left of Camera A and Camera B. Now both cameras will record video when Camera A detects motion.

Now go back to the Rules section and select the Rule for Camera B. Repeat the process, being sure to click both circles for Cameras A and B. Now both cameras will record video when Camera B detects motion.

Let me know how that works out.

Wow! They must have made some changes from when I first set my cameras up or the Smartthings Mode is very different. Sorry for having you try all these things for nothing, but I think you learned a little more about the Arlo app.

Let me do a little thinking and see if I can come up with a plan B. Or maybe someone else will reply to this with the solution.

I'll get back as soon as I can.

  4. If camera B detects motion, record video on camera B.

Just curious, Do you want to try this?

Note: It did not work completely the first time, but when they rebooted the base station it worked well.

For some reason it now is allowing me to create more that two rules per mode.

see the attached screenshot.

I have sucessfully created a mode with the rules that I need.

Now I just need to dress warmly and test.

But according to the rules I made it should work!

Thank you for your help!!!

It is much easier to do the above on a PC... but can be done on an app.

Remember that AFTER you create the new Mode, SAVE it... Then go back and EDIT it to add the additional cameras
