My smart hub (VMB4500) will not record with the USB

I have gone through 3 USB drives and they just stop recording on my VMB4500 Smart Hub.  I keep getting the orange warning in the camera view that signifies the USB drive is not connected even though it is.  I pull the USB drive and format it (again) and it works for a short time than doesn't.  What is the point of having this feature if it doesn't work??  How do I fix this?  I've spent a lot of money on Arlo products and have had nothing but problems with them.  Such a waste of money.
