I hate 2 step authentication. It is broken and I want the option to disable it for my account.

2 step authentication is broken and Arlo obviously didnt test it. I want the option to disable it for my account.

I have been an arlo customer for 7 years with 8 ultras and 3 base stations, and Arlo has gone so far downhill as to infuriate me.

The arlo iphone app locked me out and required 2-step authentication. It showed the screen to enter the 6-digit code and sent the code by email. So I swiped away from the code entry screen to my email to get the code. But when I swiped back to the arlo app, it refreshed the code entry screen and sent a new code, invalidating the code I had. Of course this turned into an infuriating infinite loop where arlo just kept invalidating every code before i could enter it. This proves arlo didnt even test the most obvious user path before inflicting this broken garbage on all of us customers.

Then a week later when I could finally get to a desktop computer so i could get the code on the computer while keeping the code entry screen open on the phone, the code emails were arriving 30 min late, after they expired. More infuriation from arlo.

Arlo, do right by your customers and allow us to have the option turn off the broken garbage 2-step authentication.

Interesting since my daughter just had 2FA on her Amazon account block an attempted hack.

WHat you describe is not necessarily an Arlo fault but how the phone handles switching. An SMS/push notification would fix this since no switching is needed (I use this all the time). Use of a different device to read the email (or using the email notification instead of the app as I do for the SMS version) to read the code may also be useful.

I've not been able to replicate any issues or delays receiving the authentication email. Are you still experiencing this behavior?

Two-factor authentication is a measure put in place to help keep your account secure. There are no plans currently to make this feature optional but I will pass your feedback along to the development team for consideration.

@JamesC the real issue is the phone apps. When you try to switch apps the Arlo one resets when you go back to it. I've had this sort of thing happen before.

OP, it may be useful to have email already open and then switch (I'm sure that depends on the OS) via the multitasking button rather than swiping it away. I prefer using the notification since, at least on Android, the code is almost always visible when I pull down on the notifications bar to preview that notification.

@StopBeingEvil: You might also try SMS.  On my iPhone the text will display over the app long enough for me to see the code.

Thanks Stephen, but even if email is already open, swiping away from arlo app (not closing it, just swiping to the side) to any other app, and then swiping back to arlo app, causes it step backwards, send a new code, and invalidate the code that i just got from email.

Well, I didn't suggest using email.  I suggested selecting SMS as the authentication method.  Again, on my iPhone the code briefly displays when the text is received (no need to switch to the message app).

You could alternatively use email when near a PC, and check the PC.

Either way, trust the phone after you get in.
