I am not getting push notifications/bings when I am away from home.  This has been going on for some time now.  I am embarrassed that I recommended the Arlo cameras to my neighbors!  What good are security surveilance cameras if they do not alert my smartphone when I am away?  Is there a fix?  This seems to be a recurring problem, from what I've read in customer posts.

There have been reports, not widespread, of alerts only on WiFi, not cell service.  If you're away from home but on WiFi, do you get notifications?

I am not getting ping notifications on my Android phone when away from home, not connected to wifi.  When I am at home, with wifi, I get ping notifications, but not when I am not connected to wifi.  Is there a solution?  If I cannot get alerts unless I am home, the Arlo cameras will be of little help in catching any potential burglars.

You can always also enable email notifications but several folks have mentioned this issue recently.  Use the Support link at the top of these pages to contact support and open a case to raise awareness.

Zookeeper91326,

I have not been able to replicate any issues with push notifications on iOS or android when away (using mobile data).

Do you have other devices that this are working correctly (is this specifically your Android device having the issue)?

What model android device and OS version are you running?

You might consider a fresh install of the Arlo mobile app. Delete the app from your device and download a fresh version from the app store and see if you get the same behavior.

Hi, James...thanks for responding.

I have tried reinstalling the Arlo app, but it seems the push notifications still aren't working on my Moto E 2nd Gen (4G LTE) smartphone, unless I am connected to wifi. I do not have another device with which to check this, but from the "community," comments, this appears to be a problem that others are having, as well...not just me!

Email notifications are of no "real-time," help, if someone is burglarizing my home.

This is a major flaw that needs to be addressed by Netgear. I have purchased 5 of these cameras, and to say that I am disgusted would be putting it mildly. Before the Arlo system gets a completely ruined reputation, they should come up with a fix.

Not getting push notifications when not connected to wifi, not getting notifications at all when away from home base station and home wifi.

From an Android form that was the answer for me...

HOWEVER I was able to fix the problem for myself! Hopefully this works for everyone. The initial issue was that I had gone through my data usage and restricted a ton of apps from using background data to attempt to conserve data, but when I turned the restricted background data off for these apps the notifications never came again like I expected them to...

The culprit is/was the "Google Play services" app. I didn't think to turn this apps restricted background data off again because I only really wanted the notifications to come from the big apps anyways (instagram, facebook, snapchat, Hangouts, theScore, etc.). As soon as I turned OFF restricted background data, I received all my notifications on my mobile network (no wifi). I don't know how or why Google Play services controls basically all notifications but I guess that's how it is. My suggestion is to check that Google Play services background data is NOT restricted, and otherwise to go through every single app and be absolutely sure the restricted data is not on.

Would you please walk me through the steps to turn OFF restricted background data?  Step 1, step 2, etc?  I can't find the way to do this in my Android and/or IPad.  I am a bit of a novice with my smart phone...

For Android go to settings and then tap Data Usage. Then scroll down to the list of applications. Pick google play Services. Unselected the Restrict Background Data. This is for the specific problem I mention. You have to ensure the Arlo app is also set up properly.
